So i was in an accident at work on monday, and while it will be a long time before i can ride a bike again, when i do come back i will not be able to operate my shimano rapidfire shifters, as i no longer have a right index finger. i believe i can set it up with sram stuff with double thumb shifters. the bike is a 2008 haro flightline comp, setup as a 1x9 right now, but it will probably get the front derailler back because i kept loosing the chain.
anyone with experience using these shifters please chime in and help me out.
i may not be back to respond for a few days.
thanks
jeff

First off, sorry to hear about the accident. I couldn't imagine losing a digit. Do you have to flick people off with your ring finger now?
The Sram shifters work great, especially when paired with the sram derailleur. You can get the triggers in a Shimano compatible version if you don't want to drop the coin for new derailleurs. 07+ Shimano rapidfire triggers that are LX level and above use a dual action trigger that you can either push or pull. I had a set of the LX shifters on my '07 stumpy that I was really happy with. I've now got an '08 stump pro with X.0 shifters/rear mech and it shifts like a dream.

Sorry about the finger man that must be difficult.
I just got a new bike with x-7 shifters on it. I came off of a trek with shimano shifter, the sram's are so much nicer not too much of a learning curve, I was not having to think about it after about 5 minutes, and they have a lighter action than the shimanos do. Very nice in deed.
get better and get riding!

New XT shifters are thumb or finger.
Sorry to hear about finger.

Sorry about the finger, but at least its your whole hand.
I got some x-9 shifters, and they work really well. You can shift and brake at the same time.

I don't have much advice on the shifter since I am a single speeder. But I am totally bummed to hear about your finger. I hope you can make the best of it. I just met you and loved your bash ring!
Heal quickly and I hope to see you out on the trail ripping it up.

Hey Jeff-I met you at Theo trail work a couple of weeks ago and liked your attitude and ambition. Accidents throw your life off the rails for a bit but you will bounce back. Hang in there!

I have a couple of bikes with x-9 shifters that you are more than willing to ride and test out.... before you buy a set for your bike. Just send me a pm and we will hit Theo together. :)

thanks a lot guys. good to hear they work well. i will probably just go ahead and get the derailler to match. it will be at least one month before i even get the use of my hand back, maybe 2 or more before i can ride stuff like theo, but i am already thinking of it every day.
