Congratulations! Can't wait to see it on the trail. The Turner Sultan is getting good reviews on MTBR.

Off-topic, I'm thinking that I may start a "Who's Your Daddy?" thread for when the vocal hold-outs finally give in and buy their 29er. It will be really fun when we see people like Craig, Dan B, Dave, Dan V and a bunch of others on the list. I'd better hurry. The list of people not on 29ers is shrinking.

Of course it is, it rides just like all the models in the Turner line! Congrats! Post up some ride impressions when you get it built an on the trails.

I'll take this hook guys.

I'll get my 29er when I walk into the bike shop and they don't have a 26er to sell me....AND I can't get parts to keep the old rig on the trail.

If that ever happens, well, I guess, Bob, your my daddy.

Til then..:eyeroll::deadhorse::wank:

+1

Bob - a more appropriate title would be "Suckers".

And when I grow another several inches. ;)

The xxix is a fun bike and I like riding it, but compared to my Inbred? No way.

This should in no way discourage anyone from riding and loving an xxix or other 29er -- they're great bikes and are almost like cheating over obstacles. Any defect of riding should be placed solely on the rider and not the ride itself. Always drink responsibly. Please consult your tax professional as the last word in all things deduction.

If I had the cash right now I'd be a convert. I loved my RIP 9 demo the other night. I'll be switching over ASAP. I like choice myself, so I hope we keep seeing 26ers, 29ers, 69ers, etc. Ride what you have fun on! I myself will be on a 29er. Can't wait!

What kind of parts are ya planning on hanging on that beauty?

I don't have any parts right now but the pre-build plan is... Thompson seatpost/stem. Fox29 120. Salsa rims. CaneCreek 110 headset. Sram shifting.

Items I'm not sure on: Crankset? Hubs? Breaks? Tires?

Any build advise or lessons learned???

Crankset = Shimano XT

Brakes: For cheap ones, go with the Avid BB7. For expensive, I don't know.

Wheels: Whatever you do, go with 36 hole. I like the Rhyno Lite rim. Cheap and reasonably strong.

Hubs: On front, most anything will work. Suggest Hope Pro2. Rear, I break everything. Chris King (expensive) have been the least problem for me. Shimano XT have been decent for a cheap hub. I think that the Pro2 is also a decent rear hub for mid-price.

Tires for fast hardpack (MN Summer) = Kenda Smallblock 8 or Schwalbe Racing Ralph (The 2.4 Ralph is my fav, but expensive and might be too big for your frame)

Tires for bigger grip = Panaracer Rampage. (slower than SB8 or RR)

I hate to say this, but I agree with Bob on the crank, brakes, and hubs (not XT hubs though). My XT crank has been flawless!

For expensive brakes, formula is the hands down winner!

I've been leaning towards XT cranks also... you guys confirm that choice. I'm going to look at the Hope Pro2 hubs (thanks).
How about Juicy 7's?
Rotor size for the big wheels??

I'm getting excited... this is my first full build. :D

The hope pro2s are a great bang-for-buck hub. Can't go wrong there.

Juicy 7s are also nice. They have more modulation in the lever than the juicy 5s. To me, the juicy 5s are like a light switch - on or off, nothing in the middle.

I would stick wtih the standard 160 rotor for XC, but if you plan to do more DH/FR stuff, you may want to go 180 in the front.

Sounds like a cool build!

Congrats Jason. You will be very satisfied with your purchase. I love mine.

XT Cranks
Formulas are shizznit, be sure to go 180mm front
Hope Pro II is a great choice. From your choice of the F29, you are going QR. When you switch to a 20mm axel(you will) the Hope can be rebuilt to accomodate.
F29? I have heard great things about the Manitou 29er fork. Homer approved!!

Hey Gregg,
Yea, finally another Homer in the metro! 20mm TA? You think that is the way to go? Stiffer? The only reason I've went away from that is for transporting it.... QR mounts in the bed of my truck so easy. WhiteBros 130 then or Manitou?? Hymmm...

I'll look into the Manitou fork.... thanks for the advise!

Personally, given that the hoops are bigger etc, I would get the best wheels you can afford. Juicy 7s for sure

I gave up on the Gordos and got some Halos. I can get like 9 Halos for the price of a pair of Gordos. That said, the next set will probably be Gordos. :)

No white. Black is the new white. ;)
