View Full Version : Group Ride: Battle Creek - Wed 8/6 6:00pm
Finally, some much needed rain at BC. Wahoo:banana::banana:
Hopefully, this will help firm up some of the re-routes and keep the dust down.... not to mention making the sand easier to ride. Now if we could just do something about all those hills.
All the usual stuff:
Meet at the BC Rec Center Parking Lot off of Winthrop. (PM if you need directions).
5:15 Warm up lap
6:00 Main Event
8:30'ish Green Mill for food, drink, and stories.
New people are always welcome. If you joining the ride for the 1st time, I will have a MORC Jersey on and be riding a red Santa Cruz BlurLT with Gold Bars. Come up and say Hi if I don't find you first!

Unless you are there for the warmup lap. Then Tom will ride like a mad man and leave you for dead on Big Sandy.....
(J/K. The pace is usually a good pace for new riders. We take plenty of stops to regroup. Somebody experienced usually rides in the back to make sure nobody has problems.)

Sounds good - I'll be alright. I will be leaving work at 5pm and should get there on time - coming from Hopkins/Minnetonka area.

As long as the next person is line is right on my tail I assume the pace is OK:crazy: Causing me to go faster until I crack like a discount store bike frame:banghead:
As a ride leader I'm not the problem, I just need to get slower people to ride behind me:cool:

Am planning on being there for both laps unless I get intimidated by the traffic and bail again this week. It's been forever though.... time for a BC fix! :)

It will be fun, too bad Shawn will be running his manbiscuits off.

Still dry here (3M Center) and the skies are actually lightening back up. Keep your fingers crossed.

looks like it sprinkled for about 20 seconds. Which is perfect to keep the dust down
Just had a cloud burst come through. Major rain for about 5 minutes. Now the sun is back out. Radar shows it should be the last of the storm. Given how dry BC was and how short the rain was I think we're still going to be OK, but won't know for sure until I get over there. Ride is still tentatively on... but that may change once we see actual conditions at the trail (I'm about 1/2mile away).

Well that was a travisty of a night for Curt and myself. First he needed my extra tube then i got a flat. Then Curt managed to tear his derailer hanger off his bike from a root sticking out of the ground, which no longer exists after he tore it from the ground. I was able to rig it so he could bike back instead of walking from Overlook.
Big thanks to Bryan for loaning me a tube. I will get it back to you next ride. Also the guys that stayed to make sure we were good. One reason I love biking is the friendliness of others.
The good news is there was Rum at my house :)
See everyone Monday or tomorrow at Leb.

Good times last night! Bummer about the flats, (Nick & Steve) and broker hangers.
I found a water bottle in the parking lot. If anyone left one, let me know.
Great to see 3 new faces! Matt, and I didn't get the guys names from Red Wing. Hope to see you all again, soon!

The other rider's name was Chris. Thanks to everyone for the ride!!!
Thanks to Matt and Chris for coming up from Red Wing.
Also thanks for the props on the new (and improved) trails. We are lucky to have such a great group of volunteers. We are hoping to have a few more re-routes finished this year yet, so stay tuned.

After we returned from the overlook trail, we road northrim/jesus saves from overlook to the wall of death side (opposite direction from normal). It is harder that way.

Hey... great ride everybody. Glad so many could make it. It turned into a perfect night for a ride.
Good to see an ongoing mix of BC regulars, occasionals, and noobs on the ride. Although I can't keep the names straight even with the regulars. :embarass:
Too bad about the d-hanger and all the flats. I guess that Marie the Headless Goddess of the Overlook must be irritated with us not paying her more respect and is sending some bad juju our way. :hit:
