What would be really fun is to hack it and be able to switch gears for your competitor during a race.

Final sprint in the Tour and someone shifts the guy into his granny gear.
McEwen for the win and what? Rain? Shut down.... I can barely keep a waterproof camera working in soggy humidity, how is this going to work in Georgia? :D

Next they'll add an interface to the Edge705 so you can keep track of your shifting performance.
Maybe add "learning" software to your bike, so it remembers the trail and it'll autoshift for you as well.

Meh, this is about as interesting as the Shimano Air System. As in, why? Fail. Talk about lipstick meet pig.
I wish Shi+mano would invest in developing a planetary gear drivetrain similar to the Rohloff but mount it *in* the BB shell. No derailleurs, no cassettes, one shifter mech, dishless rear wheel, and a perfect chainline. You only need change the rear cog and/or front chainring to change your bike's gearing. Oooh, such thoughts are quite sexy.

The CSC riders we met at the Giro told us that they had a chance to try them and all said "They are amazing". At the time (a couple of months ago) this was shimano's big secret new thing and no one was supposed to tell anyone about it. CSC's flair for drama seems to have paid off in a big win at dey tourr dey Fraince!

You'd have to have longer chainstays with this sort of setup to accomodate the extra hardware, i don't know if most people would want that. You could use the Schlumpf drive, that's the same idea.
It would be cool if Rohloff made an 8-speed IG hub that's trail rated and lighter than the current 14-speed version.
