I'm heading back to Maryland in a couple weeks and was looking if anyone has one of these bike mailers around. I've heard some things about them but never seen one. I'm looking to ship my bike and if at all possible my roof rack. (They cut my fuel efficiency from ~33 to ~25mpg)

If I could rent or borrow one, it would be greatly appreciated. I'd be mailing it on August 12th and could probably have it back to you the next week. How much do you think it would cost to ship to southern Maryland?

i will not be cheap to ship something like that (heavy and bulky) but the way gas prices are thats prob the way to go.
when i came back from mississippi i had a road bike shipped and i used just a cardboard box that i got from a local bike shop that new bikes come in (i packed it w/ foam). sorry but i don't remember the price of the shipment

I know you can go around to local shops and get a new bike box and pack it in that. I am guessing it would cost you about $45 or so to ship from here to Maryland. Shipping on a bike I bought from California was only $55

This is only going to save you about $40 in gas. The shipping of the bike alone will probably be more than that. Just keep the bike up top and save the hassle of shipping it.

I know a guy who shipped to and from CO and it cost him about 300 bones....you may want to check shipping costs first.

Can you cram it in your trunk...disassembled?

Yeah, I just talked to the shipping department at work. They said it would be at least 100 bones. Oh well, that idea was short lived, I thought there was some opportunity for penny pinching.

Bring the bike on the car and route your trip back home next to trails you can hit!

OR put the rack on your back and toss the civic up there and pedal home. Think of the MPG :)
