It seems like I spend a whole lot more money on my mountain bike but put on a whole lot fewer miles. Anyone have any simple equations of how long mountain bike parts should last compared to road parts?

I think it varies a lot among riders. Maybe depends on how often you clean things, how often you ride in mud :nono:, do you ride hard or easy. I seem to get a lot of life out of mtb parts.
Then there is Bob (bigwheel).....

I should clean my stuff more. I don't ride that hard but I've developed a nasty habbit of putting away wet.

Bob broke 2 or 3 Gary Fisher 293 frames.
Mine's still doing great.
Admittedly, Bob probably put 3-5x more miles on his.
(We love you Bob!)

I tend to go through an average amount of parts I try to keep everything as clean as I can but as life goes probably not as well as I should. I feel like - when properly cleaned, lubed, cleaned, lubed, adjusted, torqued, cleaned, and lubed, I'd think Road parts last 60-80% longer then the similar mtn component maintained similarly.
It'd also depend on what type of performance you're asking to receive? Absolutely broke part (snapped in two) or just worn out such that performance is compromised. Alot of people never even know that parts are worn out on either platform - because they don't know the difference or how badly the part is worn till it absolutely breaks?
Obviously I'm just going from experience here and more or less a gut instinct % - no real facts, figures, bar charts, or bubble graphs :)
