Hey, I'm not sure where to post this, But I'm looking for a maintenance stand someone may have laying around in their garage. I live in an apartment and have to take it back halfway across the country with me, so I'm looking for something foldable. I just can't get myself to spend $180 for a brand new park tools stand.
Side note: Does anyone just sell the the clamping mechanism? I'm pretty sure I could get an old speaker stand and make the rest myself.

You can get just the clamp arm for the shop type stand. Not easy to make the attachment for that though.
They do, however, make a shop type clamp arm that you can bolt to a wall or beam.

Or a bench mount

I don't believe any of these options are "inexpensive". But they do save space if you have a place to mount either one on both ends of your journey.

Price point sells a "workbench mount" and a "wall mount" clamp fopr about 55 bux. I'm thinkin they could be adapted to a home made stand rather easily.

Just thought i'd point this one out, on sale so its cheaper than the park ones, but will do just about the same thing. This is probably just in the same price range, if not cheaper, than some of the clamp heads, it folds up pretty compactly as far as travel and storage too.

if ya have patience, keep an eye on craigslist. There was a park one on there yesterday for $60. It seems one shows up once a month between $60-$120

It was sold within a few hours I'm guessing. It was posted at 6pm I still saw it at 9, but I'm thinking it probably went fast at that price.

I bought a pair of these at Home Depot for $10 each, until I can find a repair stand cheap enough:

I haven't hit my head on 'em yet...
(Dang, I'm just spamming the amazon links today)

check out your LBS for park, topeak and other stands, Park makes a pretty decent home repair stand for around $100 and one with a nicer clamp for $150ish
