We're back to regular Tuesday evening trailwork... and construction continues on the new trail. Without volunteers the trail opening will continue to get pushed back... so please, come join us for weekly trailwork and help us get this exciting new trail opened up!
This week we'll likely do more trail finishing work, hopefully completing what the machine has dug over the last week. There may be some remaining boardwalk constuction, depending on turnout.
Everyone is welcome... especially new trail workers! Post up if you can make it.

Count me in! Amanda might be able to make it too (if Eric decides not to come)! I'll bring my drill just in case.

Bob will be late... :p We'll save a tool for ya out there Bob.
We REALLY need people to come out and help. This new trail project is taking longer than expected, and we have a huge list of tasks to complete. Wouldn't it be nice to ride the trail yet this summer?
Please please please.. if you have never come to trailwork and are willing to put in just one to help a trail you ride regularly, now is the time. The work is not intense, and we have a great time out there. You'll be glad you showed up.

Clippers.... Unless Jodi gets them. :D
There are new clippers on order. I don't know if they will be there by tomorrow, though. I hope to also buy a few folding hand saws, but the ones I wanted are back-ordered.
I personally like clipper duty, but don't get chance to do it much. It's a nice chance to walk the trail, take a close look at the obstacles, and find new lines through the rock gardens.

I wouldn't plan on seeing Bob at all. John you are too optimistic.
I'll be home tomorrow and procrastinating on studying for my yearly proficiency check -so good chance of cookies.

Rumor has it that there will be sports beans to give out... and we have a few remaining old-style rub-on MORC stickers, as well as some size medium trailworker shirts (until we get our new ones).
We might even see the machine out there, not 100% sure... he has some cool things he might try on the trail.

So I will be there. John, What tools of mine should I bring? I also have a cordless reciprocating saw better known as a sawsall. Works like a folding hand saw without the work. If you would like to contact me by fone pm me and I will send my # to you then.

I think we might have the tools needed, we'll see... there is just a small amount of boardwalk to complete and lots of other things.
Might have the 4-wheeler out there to drag up some boardwalk to the upper pond as well.

I agree... If Amanda comes she can join us as well. We will have the girls team... We will let the boys do all of that heavy lifting and working with scary power tools. I think I recall getting hit with tools only once.

I smell fresh cookies... actually I just had 3 of them. At this rate there won't be many left. :p
Thanks to everyone who is showing up tonight. We really need the help on this new trail. My goal is to open it before the weeds grow up so thick in the middle of the trail that we have to start mowing it.

Excellent showing last night! We really got a long way with the finishing work, and the boardwalks are starting to look really good. Steve made trips up the trail dragging boardwalks up to the uppper pond loop, and we had the BSB Boys taking care of random root covering. Tim Wegner was out with the machine running the compactor, which REALLY did a nice job - especially on the freshly dug trail. (and even made it easier to do the finishing work). Then he attached a big claw to the front of the machine and dug out and placed some huge rocks to help pin the trail....
It was fun to see 4-5 projects being worked on at one time with so many people there to help out.
My feeling is we are probably 3 trailwork sessions away from opening, the 3rd hopefully being the grand opening (of which we have some special plans...) We'll see how it goes.
Major tasks left:
- Hand finish the rest of the trail (just a small amount left)
- Build upper pond boardwalk
- Root removal
- Trimming
- Pin the trail
- Some flow control (rock placement, etc.)
- Build berm into new trail
- Reclaim old trail
- Celebrate!

I like the celebrate part... Because that means we are done with the new trail. It was fun last night, the finishing crew rocked the house. I think mostly due to leadership.
