The forecast isn't looking good for riding tonight, and we really need to get bridges built so we can carry them out during national trails day this Saturday... so, I'm posting up a new kind of group event - bridge building!

What we plan to do: We need to cut deck boards, then screw together bridge sections. Mostly we need people who can help us assemble the bridges. (if you have a cordless screwdriver, even better!)

Technically it will be a MORC volunteer event, so there can't be any drinking during the building. I heard OC was the plan after the ride, so perhaps I'd encourage everyone to feel free to do the same after coming to help us out for a while. (whatever people decide to do is outside the event, of course...)

Please post if you plan to come and I will PM you the address. I'm just a few miles SE of Lebanon Hills. Carpooling from the Leb lot is encouraged, as our street doesn't have a ton of parking area.

If it does rain and my "other" ride gets cancelled I will be there. I also have a cordless screwgun, So I will bring that...

I'll probably be around but don't think I will be any help building bridges. Maybe I'll supervise. Ha!

Sweet! I'll be sporting my pink construction hat that my dad got for me when we were renovating our house! We can delegate!

I can't help build tonite cause it's my birthday. I was going to go to the ride and OC after. My wife says, you want to go mtn biking for your birthday? I say, No, I want to go mtn biking, and it just happens to be on my birthday. She was fine with that. But, she doesn't understand why I would wanna hang out with a bunch of mtn bikers and build things vs going out with friends for dinner? There will be babies there. but, we will get to discuss vacation in February...

So, it's my birthday and I can almost do what I wanna.....

Cool! It's also nice that you don't mind having 200 feet of bridge sections sitting in your garage stall until mid-July.

Maybe we can put them in the yard and start ridin' um!

Sorry, I can't make it either. The wife somehow understands biking with you guys, but can't understand hanging around and drinking.....
Paul - I know where you are coming from!

I may be able to come. If I do, I can bring a cordless drill / screwdriver and *maybe* a the right bit. Not sure if I have one or not, but if I do, I'll bring that too.

Craig, there will be no drinking at this event, while building bridges, since it is a MORC event. John posted that previously.

Looks like any riding is off for tonight... in about 30 minutes most trails will be saturated.

The build is still on... pending safety. MIght have to do most the cutting and assembly in my garage.

I'm NOT backing the cars out if its hailing and tornadoing tho :p

If you wanted to come and don't have directions, feel free to PM me... or maybe hook up and car pool with one of the others.

Correction, hang tight for weather related info. I don't want anyone driving through hail or heavy rains only to have us all standing around in my garage.

If this big system goes through we'll be ok. If there is more red on the way we might want to re-think and maybe do this tomorrow/tomorrow night.

wish I could make it- I will be working. However, if bootsie seriously injures any of you with a power tool, chances are I will get to see you in the ER. Everyone watch your limbs!

We're going to be ok. Its just going to be working in the garage now... cars are out, lumber is in... we're ready to go.

If anyone can't make it due to the rain or hail thats perfectly understandable...

Careful out there.

I don't even know how to thank everyone for the effort tonight... what a huge effort! We got a lot done - 12 x 8' boardwalk sections completed and loaded up on a trailer, another load of lumber from Home Depot, all deck boards cut and ready to assemble the rest of the sections.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! It was a really cool alternative to a rained out group ride...

You know, I don't think the last 4 we built got named...we'll have to make sure we're armed with markers on Saturday. Can't be working with un-named boardwalks can we? ;)

I would also like to thank John and Liz for letting us invade their garage and have some good conversations and laughs along with working hard. Had a blast.

noted. sharpies packed!

For those who weren't there last night we were naming the boardwalks after bones in the body - so far we have... mandible, sternum, phalange, coccyx, femur, tibia...

Throw some other ones out there - we still have 4 left to name!!!

Thanks for the work, everyone! We got a lot done, and had fun.

For the few people that left early...

Last thing we did was load the 12 finished sections on my trailer, and park it in Liz's garage stall. My estimate is somewhere around 2,400 pounds of bridge on the trailer. (Liz, I was kidding in my last comment about using your garage. Honest!)

7am Saturday, we'll take the trailer over to Leb, along with both MORC trailers, and another trailer carrying a 4-wheeler and cart. We also will be carrying a pile of hand tools in the backs of the vehicles that are hauling the trailers.

If I get chance, I'm going to hop over to one of the "I'm So Green and You Are Bad" threads, and ask if they can bring their xB, VW and specks over to help us haul this stuff around. Maybe a few pictures might help explain why some of us feel the need to have heavy vehicles. So, special thanks to Ted, John, Tim, Ryan, Neil, Troy and other polluters that are willing to weather the criticisms and own vehicles capable of doing the necessary heavy lifting. Without them, this work simply cannot happen.

Thanks again for hosting John! Hopefully I can make it out to Leb trailwork sometime to help install these little light-weight sections. That is if you don't get em all done tomorrow! If I wasn't already tied up I'd bring the F350 down and haul stuff around for ya. It mostly just sits there now anyway. Good luck tomorrow!

Yup... one of the side benefits of a project like that is you get to do fun stuff like graffiti the bottom of the bridges and give them names.

I personally wanted to go with the South Park theme but was overruled by bones. Guess we wanted to cover each possible breakage. Maybe someone will be lucky and break their Coccyx on Femer!
