I have a specialized rockhopper ( hardtail) with a 100mm rockshox dart fork, and my question is if I put a rockshox revelation 130mm fork on this bike will that change the way the bike sits to much? Or will I hardly notice the diffrence ? Might be a dumb question, but I have the revelation fork and no other bike to put it on. :banghead:

That will change things quite a bit, most noticeable will be the head tube angle which will affect the steering. You want to stay as close to the original size as possible, that is what the geometry is made for, 10mm might not affect it too much but when you go up 30 you will definitely notice.

yeah 30 is alot. Guess I'll have to post a pic and sell that fork. Thanks

Can you shorten the Revelation to <130mm? Most modern forks can have their travel easily changed by moving around some small parts (spacers, springs, etc.). A 30mm change will not be good and may actually negate frame warranty due to increased leverage imparted on the HT.

The relelation duel air is a stock 130mm with no changing the mm range. I think the u-turn model is adjustable but not the duel air. Now im trying to figure out if my FS ( specialized enduro) should get a 140mm front fork or 160mm. It has the dhx5.0 air on the back which gives it 150mm in the rear. Stock it would come with a fox 36rc talas which had a range between 110-150 but that fork is no longer made. So im looking into the 32 vanilla ( 140mm) or the 36 vanilla thru-axle ( 160mm) The revelation ( 130mm) is on there right now but it does not have the tire clearance it needs with a 2.3 tire. I'd have to run a smaller tire to make it work and im not willing to do that on my Enduro. The 32 is way cheaper since I would not need a new front hub for a thru axel. But the 36 would be sweet. But both are 10mm different then the back setting. So whats better less in the back or more?

I'd worry less about comparing the amount of rear travel to the front and focus on a fork that provides an A-C measurement as close as possible to the OE specs.

I'm surprised a modern 130mm fork doesn't have clearance for a 2.3" tire...odd. I always recommend searching here (http://classifieds.mtbr.com/showcat.php/cat/8) for good deals on high-end parts...especially susser forks.

The travel change I mentioned would typically be done internally, not with a user-operated external adjuster like a U-turn. I strongly recommend contacting Brian Rose at Shockspital (http://www.shockspital.com/inquiries/) as there may be a fairly inexpensive solution afoot.
