i'm currently running a white industries freewheel on an english threaded paul SS MTB rear hub. The wheel is going to need to be rebuilt here soon (rim is almost toast) and i've been considering getting a new hub at the same time. i'd like something a little beefier than the paul hub but would like to keep my white industries freewheel. unfortunately it seems my options for english threaded SS hubs is pretty limited. I've found a few options that use the smaller metric freewheel threading (30 vs 24 tpi) generally found on BMX bikes.

rumor has it that someone made an adapter to fit english threaded freewheels on a metric threaded hub at one point in time, but i can't find anything concrete. anyone here know of such a thing? does it really exist and is it feasible to get my hands on one?

How beefy are you talking here? There really isn't a whole lot to go wrong with a SS hub. WI, Surly and Phil Wood would be other choices. My WI Eno has held up great, granted I am no freerider.

this is on my DJ frame, used mostly for street/urban riding. while nothing has broken on the paul hub, i've been un-impressed with the inability to get all the play out of the bearings--an issue i've had to varying degrees on all four paul hubs i own.

specifically i'm looking at the NS coaster SS hub; i believe atomlab and a few other companies make SS hubs with the smaller metric threading aimed at the DJ/street market.

if you're going to spend the $$ why not just get this with a smaller driver?...
