I just got an email from REI about up coming events and it has information on the National Trail Day event at Lebanon. I am guessing there is going to be more information about this on the MORC site or? Sign up, things like that?
Volunteer Service Project: National Trails Day w/ REI and the Minnesota Off Road Cyclists
6/7/2008 9:00 AM
Nationally and locally, REI supports community efforts on National Trails Day. Once again, we are partnering with our friends at the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC) to build trails here in the Twin Cities.
This year we will reroute and recover a worn trail on the popular mountain bike trail at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Tools will be provided, but please dress for the weather and wear work gloves and sturdy footwear.
A free wicking T-shirt and lunch is provided for all volunteers.
Saturday, June 7th from 9am-1pm.
The trailhead is located in Eagan on Johnny Cake Ridge Road, just south of Cliff Road. Use 77 (Cedar) or I-35E to Eagan, exit at Cliff and head east to Johnny Cake Ridge Road. The parking lot will be on the west side of the road.

I did this last year! Was lots of fun. This is where I was introduced to MORC and met the lovely Nita & Mara! Great event!
Also, as an REI employee I got a sneak peak of the tech-t's that they're giving out this year! They are just like last years but red. Pretty nice.

I believe you will have to sign up through REI. We will get more information when we can. I can tell you we will be working on the new section that we have been working on the last couple of weeks.

I'm kinda bummed it's the same weekend as the MS150. I'll be pedaling my butt off for a cure.
I could use a nice new shirt, but we get sweet jerseys for the team I'm on with the MS150. Rock and roll!

Sweet! Among the many reasons to show up and help out, the tech-t's that REI gives are definitely worth showing up for. I still have (and wear) a whole collection of t-shirts that REI has given at the national trails day.
I'm working to get our final information on this event and we'll post more up soon. It sure would be nice to have a great showing by MORC at this one... I know it really impresses those who come out that would never have thought a group of mountain bikers could have such knowledge of proper trail design and building.

Thanks to everyone who signed up so far, and those who are in the process of signing up.
The shirts that REI gave out last year are easily worth a few hours playing in the dirt and being part of birthing a new trail.
Holy smokes it's this Saturday! :jumpy: I was thinking it was the 14th for some reason? I'll be there.

Yeah, b.bee, all you have to do is twist that little lever on your back tire to make sure it's tightened properly. I can show you how to do it if you want. Could save you several miles of walking next time. :stir:

With that many people, will it be helpful to bring our own favorite dirt moving utensile? Or, would biking over be more benificial by saving parking spots?

I hiked out to the work area today and things are drying up nicely. We're definitely a "go" for NTD!
BTW - for anyone interested, stop by the Visitor Center area when you finish if you'd like. Dakota County will have REI paddlefest & trail hikes going on from 10-2. They will also have smore-making at the campfire by the Visitor Center and some "wild" face painting in case anyone wants to pick up their kids and bring them along too.

Huge thanks to all who came out!
We finished all the machine built trail sections and got half the boardwalk out ready to be installed. A huge accomplishment!!
At this rate mid-July is looking like a good opening date, maybe even sooner.
Thanks REI for the pizza/salad and tec-tee's. Thank you everybody, including the four little troopers who help with trail trimming. Its great that parents are bringing their kids to help, and I get the added bonus of learning about dinosaurs and spittle bugs, now that's life!

Huge thanks to Don @ REI and the Leb triad for putting on an awesome trail day. Extra huge thanks to the crew that came out and worked with Shad and mara -- you all rocked. Seriously. If any of y'all are interested in trail building, please come out again. You really do have an eye for the job, and the trails would be much better off with your input.
Thanks Justin for your great efforts at the trailhead! You were a great asset to trailday!

( On the "for those about to rock, we solute you" front, congratulations when the time is appropriate and please post up if you feel the inclination to introduce us to your daughter :crazybanana:)

While I appreciate the sentiment I really didn't do much besides eat energy bars and drag kids and tools around the forest (i'm pleased to report we came back with all of our extremities).
Good times, though!

Sorry to be redundant, but Thanks everyone!!!
I (along with a handful of others) took the opportunity to walk the entire new section on the way out. I can't think of anything else that we could have possibly done today. Everything went great!
Thanks for all volunteers, dirt bosses, and REI for making this a great event.
BTW, the shirts are awesome, and the pizza was the perfect touch. Thanks REI!
