Just got my bike back from a long overdue tuneup on Friday, and this weekend, noticed some odd behavior in the front fork. I'm getting oil weeping out of the top of the stanchions, and the fork is softer w. the preload maxed out.

Is the weeping a normal function of a fluid/seal changeout? I've never noticed this behavior post-service before. I need to go have a discussion w. the mechanic today about some other issues, I'm just wondering if this needs to be part of the conversation.

Fork is a 2003 vintage Marz Marathon 29 (oil/coil)

TIA

You will sometimes get a little more oil that usual on the stantions after a rebuild. This should stop after a ride or two.

As far as the stiffness goes, the shop either did not put enough oil in it or Marz had too much oil in it before. Marz is known for have poor quality control when it comes to getting the right amount of oil in their forks. There is a secondary air spring effect on these forks which is the air volume above the oil. If you put in more oil, the volume is less and the air spring is stiffer. The owners manual should list the proper oil height for the fork if you want to check it.

It occurs to me--I was running a slightly higher viscosity oil after the last service.......dammitall, I should have told them when I dropped it off. Might just have to live with it until the next service, or figure out how to change it myself.
