Does anyone have an updated map of roughly where the new features and reroutes will be at Leb?

No. We are going to be doing some GPS work for Dakota County in the next few weeks and I hope to create a map out of that, which will also include corrections we have made the last few years that aren't on the existing map.

So far only a few people have seen the new proposed trail. Next week at Tuesday trailwork some will get a really good look at whats to come. Trail volunteers, as always, will also have input on what if any features will be included in the trail. This particular one will be mostly open trail aside from a few boardwalks... at least at first. (it is intermediate trail)

Why do you ask?

Well, mostly because I like maps. And in the description that was in the news letter or previous post (not sure which) I could not visualize where we were talking about. People use things like "the left turn after the off camber right"

Like I know what that means...:D

You know... its next to the tree by the rock on the right side of that trail... ;)

Lets see if I can at least give a visual of where it is generally located without doing just that.

Everyone knows where the monster log pile is I think. Its part of a small new section that went in I think 2 years ago. When you finish that section and cross the ski trail you are on whats called the dream trail. its the long sustained downhill with all the braking bumps.

As you head down the dream trail you will take a blind left turn along the side of a hill, head down and take a sharp right turn. This is where most of the braking bumps start, and one of the fastest sections of the trail. This is where the new trail will start. You can look at that area and see pink ribbons hanging marking the trail.

The new trail winds its way around and connects back up further up the dream trail where it crosses a hiking trail. You'll see pink ribbons there as well.

Yea.. that was probably not real clear. We don't want to give too much visibility just yet as it invites people to ride on the trail before its finished which is like riding a wet trail in spring. :p

I saw all of the flags on my last ride at Leb and tried to piece it together how it is going to go. Is the new portion still a nice down hill run or? Any way we could by-pass that final climb while we are re-routing things?

There will be some good downhill, and some more climbing. We go much lower than the existing trail as we work our way down to a lake, then have to work our way back up again.

I think the new design will do a lot of things for us. First and most importantly it will route around a fun but horrible section of trail that needs to go regardless. It provides more length, some added views and features, but still has some downhill for those who don't want to lose that feel. This time we should be able to get the right twists and turns into it so the intermediate riders don't need to get on the brakes to slow down, but the experts can still roll.

We're not going to please everyone I'm sure... but we've been talking about this for years now so its not a surprise to anyone out there. There are other trails in the metro doing better downhill type things, allowing us to focus on the kind of experience that is better suited to a trail in a more populated area.

We do have that small re-route for people to skip the last climb, we can probably make it more official while we're at it. It really has helped cut down on people dropping off the side of the hill into the path of the last downhill.

I like that climb. It showes me how lazy or how hard I have been working.
