As noted in the "Trail Condition" thread John and Bob cleared a fallen tree with hand saws!! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes! It was HILARIOUS!!! And even more hilarious that they asked if my friend or I happened to have a larger saw on us!!! I can't believe you guys did that so well! Good work guys! CHEERS TO YOU!! :D:D:D

Thanks, Kristin and Eric. It was good seeing you out on the trail.
Next time, we'll have to bring something bigger than this when cutting out a full-size tree. Fortunately, the tag-team approach worked.

I should take a picture of my finger... I actually snapped my saw in half while cutting and it pretty much will cost me my finger nail. I never knew a saw could break in half, but it did... this probably means I should have held firm when I told Bob that we should have done it with a chain saw... ;)
Oh well... whats a finger nail when the trail is clear and we have a story to tell. Was glad we had witnesses! :)
Nice work guys.
Your hand didn't get tired?;):wank:

What is it with Leb trees breaking hand saws this year? Sorry to hear you had to sacrifice a finger nail!

Its more scary when they break on the blade than the handle tho let me tell ya!

I'm buying a different brand next time!
My brother has a longer hand saw for the bigger trees. It doesn't fold, but it can cut larger trees way better than our little foldable hand saws. I need to get one of those when I replace my broken one.

It looks like MORC needs some safety training for hand saws as well as chain saws.

Will we get to wear chaps when wielding a small 6" saw? Nice! :p

Thanks for the disturbing mental image of John wearing chaps...;)
Thought I'd chime in after we did some trail clearing this week. Found a really nice pack saw that will slice thru 8"+ logs in a hurry as we found out.

REI carries them as well.

How about 12"+ like the one John and Bob tackled?

I have one of them from about 20 years ago, when I used to do a lot of boundary waters trips. They are okay, but not great. First, the triangle shape is not good for cutting big logs. The part where the blade gets close to the frame is not big enough, so the saw blade pushes away from the log if you try to take bigger saw strokes. Second, it is not something that I'd want in my camelback when I crash.
