The City of Elk River Parks and Recreation Department (ERPR) is hosting the second annual "Ramsey Bicycle Fallen Oak Off-Road Duathalon" on Saturday, July 12th, 2008. This will be 95% off-road. The only part on the road will be the lead-out and then the return after each lap. Off-Road duathalons are rare, so be sure to check this one out if you are at all interested in doing one. This course will be challenging enough for serious racers, and yet still friendly to the beginner...if they can pace themselves! Check the link below for registration info and more details. We are limiting the number of entries to 100. Everyone pre-registered will receive an event T-shirt. Pre-registration is open until June 20th and then the fees go up five bucks. You will also be able to sign up on-site the day of the event, if it hasn't been filled by preregistrations.

You can enter the event solo, or with a two-person team. The fees are $15 for a solo entry, and $20 for the team ($20 & $25 after June 20th). The basic format will be to run through sections 2 & 1 backwards once, then get on your bike and ride through sections 3 & 4 the normal trail direction 2 laps in a row. Finally you'll finish with another backwards lap running through sections 2 & 1.

We've already got a few sponsors, and more are in the works. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each class of Solo Men, Solo Women, Team Men, and Team Women. Co-ed teams will compete in the Team Men class. The sponsors are donating quite a bit to be given away in the random drawing after the awards ceremony, so be sure to stick around.

For more info call the ERPR at 763-635-1150, or contact me directly here.

Some of the information isn't fully up to date, but I've got them working on it. Mailing it in works fine also, just print out the pdf, fill it out, and mail it in with your payment.

I just acquired another great sponsor for this event! Extreme Performance Gear and Training (http://www.gearandtraining.com/). They have generously donated several hundred dollars worth of swag to give away. I'll be more specific once I've inventoried it, but it's all high-end sports apparel. They are a local business in Rogers, and they do mostly internet and phone sales. They only deal in the specialty high-end niche market stuff that the local bike shops don't generally carry. Check out their website with the link above. They just got their shipment of Twin Six's entire product line.

Since I like to get the ladies involved at all of our races out there, I requested that most of the swag be women's specific, and they came through big time! We have tons of top quality, expensive, women's performance clothing to give out. I'll have to count it, but we might have enough to give something to every female registered!

Stay tuned...

This is a fun race, most definitely. Great course! I was surprised at how grueling it was (last year was my first ever off-road duathlon) but this year I'll have a better training regimen! Woot!

Don't forget to pre-register for this, save a couple bucks and get the T-shirt size you want. Girls, you know you don't want a Large... guys, you don't want the Small. :)

Bumpity-bump-bump for this. Tuesday the 24th is the final day for early registration. (Tomorrow!) Get it in!

For a route update, we will NOT be using the new BallBuster section for the Duathalon. It will add more mileage than we have advertised, so we'll keep it the original course. The jury is still out on whether or not to run through the new Expert loop backwards. Maybe that will have to be a raceday surprise!
