Has any one ridden the trails at the kickapoo valley reserve in la Farge WI? I will be down in Gays Mills WI mother day weekend and have been searching for near by trails to ride. has any one ridden the reserve? is it worth checking out? its about a 40min drive from were i will be staying, so if anyone knows of any trails closer to Gays Mills that are worth checking out id love to hear them.

My wife's grandmother lives in Soldiers Grove, small world. I know there are some mountain bike trials at Wild Cat Mountain, I am not sure of La Farge though. Sorry!!

My in-laws have 350+ acres along the Kickapoo near Steuben. I'd love to live down in that part of WI, just what to do for a living. The riding would be incredible. Just think of all the trails one could build!??

You could give Marty a call at the Prairie Peddler. He'd be able to give you some good advice. He lived in Viroqua, now Prairie du Chien, WI

some of the trails in the preserve are open to bikes but not real technical singletrack. http://kvr.state.wi.us/

I'm the guy Ken referred to. Currently there is only one loop open to mountain bikes. It is kinda fun, but its certainly not long enough. The Vernon Trails group(of which I am a member), is working hard to get more access to the trails there. Ben says they're not technical, and to a point, that's true. Many of what the KVR calls a mountain trail is simply an old farm road. The rest of the trails there, the single track stuff is spectacular, if horsed out. Sections are great. Sections suck.

For a ride close to Gays, go to Viroqua, stop in at Bluedog Cycles and ask for directions to the Sidie Hollow trails. They're a fun, fast, flowy set of trails, with more sections being added regularly. IIRC, there's 3ish miles of trail there now. Maybe more.

Down by me in PdC, I have a few options. "backcountry" single track in the hills about town. I don't know how many miles, but its getting up there. I seem to either stumble on more every week, or hear about more terrain. Rumors abound that there's ~60 miles in the hills. Yellow River State forest in IA has 30ish miles of trail. Very hilly, but not a ton of single track. If you drop down to my hood, let me know. I may be able to break away and lead you around a bit.

I'm not sure if the HPT trails are even open yet. We've been pretty wet down here. I bet they are though - the last week was dry. The trails there are great.
