Due the enormous amount of work that Joel and I are trying to get done out at Hillside, we are going to try having a regular trailwork night out there. So anyone who has time, can come join us. Starting May 5th, we are going to try be there every Monday night to get some work done. This is an open invitation to everyone who wants to help us shine this trail up.
I will be there around 4:30pm, and Joel might get there earlier. We will work for a while and then go riding. Bring your bike, a beverage, a shovel, a rake, and a cutter of some kind. If you don't have any of the above, one will be provided for you.

This Monday we will be smoothing out the B1 Loop (Beginner Loop, Section 1). If you get there after we start, just start heading down the B1 trail until you find us, it's not very long. The start is in the NorthWest corner of the parking lot, opposite of the main trailhead.
Bring:
Shovel
Rake
Cutters

You planning on doing this through the summer? I have a an exam tomorrow and finals next week. After that I have 3 weeks off till summer session starts. I'll be working during the break, but I can probably get off around 6 if you plan on being there that late. I work right in Elk River, so I should be able to get there right after 6.

Yes, we plan on continuing this schedule (with possible cancelled dates) throughout the entire summer. Watch this thread for weekly updates.
We should be around until about 7:00 or 8:00 every night, possibly later. It depends on what we are working on, and daylight.

Another 5 to 9 workday at the trail tonight.
We made some more improvements on the start of the X2 line with a new berm #1 and a huge berm #2, it's almost 3 feet wide! The lip of the bridge jump at the end was also reshaped to be more user-friendly. :)
I also made some progress on the B1 loop as well, getting the first part a little more dialed in.

We have a big plan for work this Monday, Memorial Day. Big repair in section 3. Show up by 8am and you'll get fresh blueberry pancakes and OJ!

Well, it seems that pancakes before trailwork was an excellent idea. We stomped out an enormous amount of work today. Two major repairs were completed. Actually they ended up being major improvements by way of adding some pretty impressive feaures. Everyone likes what they've been seeing with the big new additions, so we want to keep that ball rolling. We've really been working hard on keeping it fresh and challenging for them.

The regularly scheduled trailwork is on for tonight. We have two projects to work on, cutting new trail in section 4, and continued work on the beginner loop. Join us around 4:30 and bring a shovel and rake if you have one.

Trail work is on for tonight as scheduled. I will be on the beginner loop doing some dirtwork, and I think Joel is planning on continuing to cut the new intermediate trail through section 4. I'll be on the West edge of the property, and can be found by following the beginner trail out of the NorthWest corner of the front gravel parking lot. Joel will be on the East edge of the porperty, and can be found by heading up the hill to the East under the power lines.
Bring shovels and rakes.
...and bikes!

I'll be up there tonight...I don't have any tools though.

We'll be meeting in the front lot and heading out from there. I'll have enough extra tools for a few people. See ya there around 4:30.
Thanks!

Myself and one other are planning on coming out. Have shovel, pitchfork, and strong back, for now.

I'll be there. Bring a regular leaf-rake too if you have one, the wide plastic kind.
Thanks!
probably be rolling in a nip late-it's a bit of a hike to Hillside. What sections will you be working on/where can we meet up?

Around 6pm. Is that too late?

Nope, 6pm is not too late. We're there until 8:30 sometimes. Just give a ring when you get there, and I'll tell you where you can find us.
I haven't decided which project we'll be working on yet tonight. If more than one or two people show up to work, I usually let the group decide.
Oh yeah, don't let me forget to give everyone their swag for working...

I'll probably be picking up a used chainsaw tonight if it runs well. I'll bring it next monday so we can finish the jump rebuild in section 3.
Also, let me know if you ever need to borrow it.

Right on. Thanks for the help last night. You guys were great.
I'm trying to acquire a stick of dynamite to put in the gas tank of that P.O.S. chainsaw we were trying to use. Got any?

It seems to run well. The off switch doesn't work, and it leaks chain oil, but otherwise seems fine. I haven't cut anything with it yet, so time will tell. I'll try and fix it if I have the time to rip it apart. I'll bring it monday.
I have some ideas for work. I'm not sure what the proper submission forum is, so I'll list them here.
1. In the new small downhill rock garden section there's a bigger boulder off to the right. It's a good 2-3' drop that I would have like to try, but the approach is too sketchy (loose moderately sized chunks of granite). Would it be possible to throw a plank of green treated out over it and the approach as well? This would make the approach manageable, and the drop about 3+ feet.
2. In section 4 there's the fast downhill and then the (new) banked turn around the small rock. The banked turn is great, but everyone brakes (even a little myself) in preparation for the sand at the bottom. Could we build a wooden bridge at the bottom to raise it up off the sand? This would also give people a chance to hit their brakes a little less and hopefull cause less sand buildup.

Your ideas are both great.
For #1, I'm impressed. You're the first person that has noticed that line. We'll have to take a look at it because they have extended the boulder field well past it now. I think it's something we can tweak and get ridable. I've been eyeing that line up since the day we built it, but I've just recently healed up my broken collar bone so I can finally give it a go.
For #2, we will most likely armor it with some flagstone or something. Wood is expensive, and it gets slippery when it's wet. We just need to keep raking the sand out, kind of like having to constantly do the weed whacking.
See ya Monday!

Today when I rode I noticed that the little jump at the beginning of section 2 was half broken. I fixed it for now, but we should probably stake it to hold it together a bit more. I'll bring a stake hammer.
Also, some guy was complaining that we were out of envelopes at the pay box. I'm not sure how those get refilled. :)

I've been considering making that one "proper". Maybe Monday after the bigger one in section 3 is complete...
