I'll get to the details. If you need a suspension fork or rear shock replaced, fixed, overhauled tuned, are looking for a used fork/rear shock or just want to meet a really knowledgeable and straight up nice guy then Brian Rose at SHOCKSPITAL (http://shockspital.com/) is the place to take it to.

Last week at lunch while discussing upgrading the FASTRAX (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/olderrearshocks/product_22532.shtml) Coil rear shock on the fs I'm building up, Dirk suggested I talk to Brian about scrapping together a new shock for me from what he has in shop. So this weekend I checked out his site (again) and sent him a message indicating that I had an old RS Mag 21 that was broken that I would like to donate (Spring Cleaning and no use for it) and inquired if he had any "upgrade" shock/parts for a newer (and lighter) rear suspension. Brian impressed me from the get go, he responded within minutes of the message stating he would take the fork in exchange for a re-built rear shock (he also like collecting vintage shocks). I stopped by his shop (very organized and clean) and finally met him face to face. He's just a straight up nice guy. I toured his place, talked shop and gave him the Mag and Fastrax for measurement. He pulled down a box of Fox rear shocks and stated that he'd build up the best one, have it done by this Wednesday, ship it free to me and take the Mag in exchange! How's that for CS!?

On top of that, the night before while I was tightening the bolts down on the front caliper for my new disc brakes, I sheared the head right off of one (and no I was gently snugging it up to torque wrench it). I talked to Brain about this and he said bring it in and he would tap it out (I have terrible skills at this and did not want to really attempt it on the fox fork) and help me set them up.:crazy2:

I'll probably post an update after I get the new shock (with 3 month warranty) but just needed to once again say take your stuff/buy from Brian at Shockspital.

Just dealt with Brian again today. Awesome service!

Had my forks and shock rebuilt in April. Did a ride at Leb on Saturday and noticed the rear shock had no rebound. Took it off and dropped it at the Shockspital on Tuesday. Asked Brian to do whatever it needed. Recieved an email the next day that it was ready - AT NO CHARGE.
Picked it up today, and he said "Warranty repair." I was willing to pay parts or labor or both, but it was covered.

Thanks Brian!

Yes I have ridden Copper Harbor and Marquette, MI trails as well as Leb a few times on my "custom" exchange rear shock he built up for me and all is butter! He even ordered me a butterfly lock out switch since the one he had did not work with my frame, sold me a cd, adjusted my disc brakes, sold me some skulls (more skulls please!), put an o ring on my crank (he checked it and found it worked better with the o installed), tweaked everything else all for $20 (he installed the shock of course). I was flabbergasted!

B. Rose, I salute you! I will only bring my shock problems to the Dr.

Brian has improved the quality of my life in several unique ways.

Also, he makes his own sausage and then feeds it to people.

Damn straight.

I'm with what everyone has stated here, I've been happy with the two shocks he fixed up for me and have heard nothing but good things about him and his work.

Missed the shindig my self, but heard it was a great time.

Just incase someone is too damn lazy to look up the link for Shockspital, here it is again:

Adding Shock Service, Shock Repair - for search'n.

I see a cool lamp in someone's future!

Separately, who's had hydro brake work done there? Comments?

BRose is awesome. Nice guy and he has a cool little shop in Mpls. Although I do need to get my fork set-up directions from him still. I guess a phone call is on order. I recommend him to anyone struggling with dialing in their suspension or that needs an overhaul.

Cool lamp?

soups way of saying you should retire that thing and upgrade to modern day suspension. i.e. it makes a better lamp post than a suspension fork....

My wife would love that. :incazzato:

Does it come in a threaded version?

I really want to get a newer fork, I gotta do the whole deal though since its threaded. Although 1.125 at least. Time to just do it I suppose.

I tried to use Shockspital once. Called, left messages, e-mails... Everything short of smoke signals and never got a response. Maybe I was doing it wrong. Oh well, sounds like he does great work.

I called at 5:30 PM tonight about taking the spacer out of my Reba Race. Brian said just to come in. Arrived at 6pm. Watched him take apart my fork like a Jedi Master. Very nice guy!

Someone I know had the same experience with calling/VM. He went elsewhere

I did have him look at my old Mag 21 and he fixed it up nice. The fork was in great shape and he changed the oil for me. It rides super at Theo.

I never had any problems when trying to call him.

IMO he is a hell of a nice guy who does excellent work.

Also he's pretty much of a one man show so if he's out doing errands or busy with something else he might not be able to get to the phone quickly.

I emailed him last Thursday night after the Leb group ride. I blew out the rebound dampener o-rings on my fork. It had to be around 10:30 pm and he replied to my email in less than 10 minutes. I really wanted to do the Murphy night ride on Saturday. I left it with him on Friday at around noon, and he had it done before 4PM.

He bled my brakes and put in some new pads for me about 2 months ago.

I called and he was in the shop and brought my bike in after work and he did it right then and there, hangin' out in the shop and chatted with him for about 45 minutes while he fixed it up and it was a lot cheaper than any other shop that I called.

I think his hours are 10 or 11 to 7ish?

Yeah taking out the spacer was supposed to be a 15min job. He accidentally pulled out the wrong side because we were talking and the fork turned around. Oil spilled everywhere! LOL. He is a super nice guy to talk to. We chatted for about 50 minutes and he only charged me $10 bucks.

No doubt he is a stand up guy with a sense of doing right.
