We just received official word from Dakota County that our trail project proposal for 2008 has been approved!
As you all know, we have a section of trail called the "Dream Trail" that has turned into more of a nightmare trail. This section cost the volunteers at least 3 full trail sessions last year, and all we could do were temporary fixes to help combat the braking bumps.
This year we will be doing a re-route around most of the worst areas, while in the process adding appx. 3/4 of a mile of new intermediate singletrack. (and more elevation, of course!) The new trail will feature two sections of 100' boardwalk and a jog around a small lake (something we don't yet have at Leb).
We hope to get started on this new section right away this year, and will also be doing national trails day work there as well in June in cooperation with REI. We will also be completing the improvements started last year to the upper bypass area, adding a bit of trail and natural obstacles there as well.
This is not all of the great news we got from Dakota County, but for now it is all we can share. Lets just say that by 2009-2010 there will be more good trail (and other) improvements that will keep Leb on top of everyone's list of favorite trails. It is my guess that by 2010 we will be well into the 10+ mile range of trail at Leb.
More details on this new route will come in time. For all those wanting to come help out, we hope to start our trailwork the first Tuesday in May. If any of our regulars want to come out and get a peek at the new trail and help finish up the flagging, please let me know.
Oh, and I almost forgot... the return of the Gnome(s) in 2008.... :gnome:
