Hi, my friend recently upgraded from a really crappy sr suntour that had a absolute maximum travel of 20 mm. to a rock shox pilot sl with lockout + rebound adjust and positie air. The new fork when he recieved it would not lockout. We read that it may nead to be just flexed about 20 times, so we tried it 100 times and still it would not lockout. With some reading of the manual we decided that the fork's flood gate was not set high enough. It has internal floodgate adjustment so we took the cap off and used a 2.5mm allen hex to set this properly. It said turn all the way clockwise then back it out 2 or more turns acoring to his wheight(120lbs.) I turned it till I felt some resistance without turning it the 2 back th other way and then tried to lock it out and it worked, unfortuneately when I tried to turn the lockout switch back to normal un locked, it would not unlock so now it is stuck in lockout. We tried turning the hex nut back the 2 or so and it still wouldn't do anything but stay in lockout. We tried turning the hex key a little bit more and still nothing so i turned it back clockwise till I could feal the resistance, but this time after 20 turns there was no resistance. Is it possible that whateer this screws into came off the threads or, maybe stripped it out(which I dont see how it could happen without turning this really hard against resistance, which I never felt.) This completely fathems me and so now we need some help on this fork? I called another buddy at the bike shop to figure this out but he didn't have a clue without looking at this fork up close, so I may bring it into the shop tomorrow.

The usual problem associated with no lockout is that some of the fluid has either leaked or is missing from the motion control stanchion. The flood gate really only controls how much pressure needs to be applied to release the lockout. I would check the fluid level and add to the rock shox specs whatever you are missing. You probably want to have a trained mechanic do this for you but it should fix the problem.

For some reason I think whats wrong with this fork is pretty simple. When I shake the fork, there is obviously something loose in there, because you can hear something rattling on the sides, and pretty sure its on the motion control side. As stated earlier, there is no resistance when turning the floodgate so I am wondering if there is a nut that could have fallen off of it?

I would take it to a shop, too hard to try and explain what to look for on the interior pieces. Sorry I wasn't any help for ya, hope your shop can fix it!!
