Folks, Below are photos taken at various locations in our area including Hancock, Houghton, Calumet and the Copper Harbor trails. These are located within the Keweenaw Peninsula and just a 4 hour drive east of Duluth where we used to reside. My spouse is a range Gal. Today at these sites is well over 150 miles of IMBA built single track. Copper Harbor trials remain our favorite because there as close to mountain like riding we’ve seen in the Midwest, but I’d hate to underscore what Michigan Tech, Swedetown and Maasto Hiihto trails have to offer. The folks who graciously built these trails made them to range from technical to moderate. At the following link is our CH photos.

As Arlyn said, there is some stellar riding in the Keeweenaw! Definitely worth the trip for a long weekend.

Hopefully I'll be able to ride with you guys at some point this summer. Got a wedding in Calumet on Fathers day weekend so I'm hoping to do the Chaindrive before the festivities. May only have time for the 16 though. Happy Riding!

I've only ridden the copper harbor trails, but they are enough to get me to head back up in that direction for some riding again this summer, I here marquette is nice too, so maybe a four day weekend to hit them both.

I'll be passing through there on my bike tour this summer. Looks awesome, but I doubt my loaded tourer is going to be capable of much trail riding. ;)

Perhaps I'll be able to hit these after the Ore to Shore.

Saying Marquette is nice (for the Midwest) is like saying Yosemite is "ok" for a climbing trip. The best of the Midwest biking is located in the U.P., eh! IMHO

OK, Some of you folks have an good idea of the trails we have UP here and if you give us some heads up we should be able to guide you down our favorite ones. Our trails are getting better marked each summer, but some remain far for being easy to follow while others are quite well marked. If you’d like to camp while here, Hancock has a really, really nice municipal campground which is across the highway from the Maasto Hiihto and Churning Rapids trails. We reside in Houghton which is just across the canal from Hancock and 4 blocks from Tech trails. Maasto Hiihto, Churning Rapids and Tech trails constitute at least one day’s volume of trails to ride here. Swedetown tails near Calumet is just 10 miles away and have about 20 miles of less technical yet wonderfully fun trails. Then last and certainly not the least fun is Copper Harbor which is a 40 miles drive up the peninsula from us. The folks there are adding more trails this summer and since the vertical climbing commonly spanks Midwestern riders we usually make that an all day event to ride there’s. Who’s in???

If you'd like to ride some trails while here I do believe some of the ½ bike shops rent them. I know Sam at Keweenaw adventure does. When will you be passing through??
