In case anyone cares this is a list of what we generally bring along in our sag van while on the MDH trail.

Slime tubes, 9 speed cassette, derailleur and chain, SPD cleats, tires. Disc brakes pads for OUR bike. Plus a pretty complete set of bike tools and work stand. Oh and 2 spare tires for our camper trailer. Last year we had a flat and drove 5+ hours to get a replacement. :fool:

In or on our bikes.

Slime tubes (installed), air pump (no Co2 cartridges) master chain link, tire irons, tube and of course a multi tool. This year I think we’ll carry a mini shock pump.

We’ve had pretty good luck with this list.

Great timing--I'm going to be heading out at the end of June and was just starting to think about what I'd need. My brother and I will be riding--day trips only from a campground. If something major goes on (i.e., we'd need a repair stand or to rebuild a drivetrain), we'll just enjoy the camping.

Question: do you use the pre-made slime tubes or make your own from regular tubes with the slime goo tubes? How many extras do you carry, and are those slimed as well? And is there a particular reason you don't use a CO2 pump?

Thanks!

Isaac, If you’d happen to have a slow leak or multiple flats, seems like CO2 cartridges might leave you out there. We use preslimed tubes in our bikes and carry just a plain tube as a spare. This may be foolish on our part because the tires become impregnated with thorn heads and if you had to pull your slimed tube out for whatever the reason, I’m very doubtful you’d keep air in a regular tube. Hope that helps. :crazy2:

Since I hate pumping up an entire 2+" tire with a mini pump I bring one Crankbrothers mini pump and then CO2 for the rest. You can still do a slow leak with CO2, but you will run out after a while, so for multi day bring the pump for sure. I also bring a cassette lockring tool, had to use that once on the trail, there are tiny travel style ones that are small and light. Also a der. cable and brake cable if you use it. Light weight and real usefull. A small dropper bottle with chain lube, it get's real dusty and the clay dust is very abrasive.
I run tubeless tires with Stans. Even with ultra thin 127tpi casing I didn't get any flats in 4 days.
