A group of us we’ll be riding the Maah Daah Hey trail the last week in August so I’m checking if anyone else will be out there. We’ve been out there a few times in the past and since its used so darn little it always fun to see other trail users while there. This link takes you to MTBR.com where we've added some photos from our past rides there. http://tinyurl.com/3axg4e

Hope we see ya there.

Be prepared for a Bhutan Death March. It gets Africa hot there x Pi. I was there in mid-September and it was 105d. But....it is the dry heat!

I recall having two 100oz bladders in my snowboard backback and draining both plus water bottles on the frame. Weird thing was, no sweat, just salt-caked. Mmmmm, man jerky.;)

If I remember correctly, you had to ride for hours with no water, right?

This is our 3rd or 4th tour of the trail so yes we’re familiar with the weather averages at Medora and this is our 2nd one at this particular date. If it gets warm for us, and believe me us Yoopers don’t be well in heat we just get the campers out of bed early and on the trail so as to beat least some of the heat. Plus we have our sag meet us at a road crossing to resupply us with water and grade a nice lunch too. Hope that makes sense.

my only question is why drive that far when you live in midwest's mtb heaven. I suppose when you live that close to C.H. you have to drive that far to be impressed by something.

OT- how are the trails up there? I want to hit CH sometime in may, are the trails reliably ridable by then?

Ben, your tooooo kind. As much as much as we love those Copper Harbor trails, not to mention Maasto Hiihto, Swedetown and Churning Rapids, we still need to get away and see what other trails have to offer. By May some trails here “should” be OK but I’d suggest emailing us or someone up here and ask before heading up. We might be able and willing to guild you down our favorite ones if you give us some “heads up”. We have stopped at the TC’s a enjoyed some of your trails.

For those of care to see some photos from CH go to mtb.con photo gallery at

I'm new to the area (from Oregon) - how far is MDH from MSP?

It's maybe 8 hours or so. Well worth the drive. Not a technical trail, but more of an endurance ride through the most remote, beautiful land you'll ride within 8 hours drive. Get a map, take a lot of water and tubes/patches.

Do it. Got me thinking about it again...

John, We used to live in Medford and did some rids with the PUMP (Portland Urban MB club) while there. This was quite a few years ago but they’d meet for the weekend at various locations and do rides, so we'd meet them and seen some wonderful trails including up Mt St Helens, McKenzie pass, Lost Lake, to name a few. Gee that was a nice sumer!
