We're throwing a full frontal assault at the trail on the weekend of April 26th and 27th, 2008. A two day extravaganza of dirt tossin' and rock haulin'!
8am start, both days. Work 'til we wanna quit.
If you can join us, show up anytime, either day or both days. We prefer it if you show up right away when we get going at 8am, but if you need to sleep in, we understand. (We may need too also...) If you show up after we get rolling, just look for one of our groups out there and pitch in. I can pm you my mobile number if you want it, that way you can locate us easier if we're way out there.
We will begin each day with a battle plan that is dependant upon how many people show up to work. We have over 500 hours of work we'd like to get done this summer, so the more help we get, the better. We will have the option to work on many different types of trail. Some freeride, some cross-country, some double-track/beginner, so we can also take a vote on what we work on. Some of it is maintenance and repair, some of it is building all new trail, some of it is adding new features to existing trail. Show up and YOU could determine what gets done first!
We will have some tools, but it always works out best if you can bring your own. Be sure to mark your tools and count them before you start working, and before you leave. I have already inherited a few tools from previous work days... and some of mine have left with others.:cryin:
Recommended items to bring:
Long pants
Long sleeve shirt
Work boots (above the ankle)
Gloves
Eye wear
Extra gloves
Water
Snacks
More water or other fluids
Ice-filled cooler
Optional items to bring:
Shovels (all sizes and shapes)
Metal Rake
Pick
Saw
Axe
Loppers
Clippers
Nippers
Zippers
Pippers
ATV
Trailer for ATV
We can have Jimmy John's deliver sandwiches to us right at the trail, so no need to bring a lunch if you want to do that with us.

This will help you out if you haven't been involved with trailwork in the past.
Just a reminder, NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!

Hey Rich - I have an ATV that I can bring, but I do not have a trailer for it. Do you still want me to bring the ATV? I probably wont be able to stay the whole day but I should be good from 8:00am to about 2:00pm on saturday and maybe the same on sunday.

Is there any way to load rocks safely onto it to haul them out to locations? If so, bring it. If it's a hassle to get it out there, don't worry about it. We already have one for sure with a trailer. Maybe a wheelbarrow?

Definitely bring your bike. Some guys quit working a little sooner to get out on the bike. Most wait until after we're finished for the day. The lucky one's get to use their bikes to 'test' the new features.
Bring it!

We will be needing several two-person crews to hit the trail and clear the leaves, sticks and sand patches. If anyone can bring a big 'ol leaf blower to speed up the process, that would be a great help.
Also, if you have a shovel and/or rake (or two), please bring it. We have a limited number of tools available to lend out.
If you can only make it out for an hour or two, please still come and help. Every hour that you donate is one less hour for Joel and I to be out there the next weekend.;)

I'm about 95% sure I'll be up to lend a hand too on Saturday. Living in Rogers it's just a short trek for me.

Awesome! It looks like we can use up to 8 leaf blowers. (If we get enough people to spread them out to all the different tasks.) So if anyone else has one, bring it.

We are still having the trailwork session this weekend at Hillside Park in Elk River. Both days, starting at 8am. It's going to be too wet to ride the trail on Saturday, but we should be able to get some hits on the new freeride line yet to be built. Gotta test it while ya build it to make sure the transitions are all proper! It looks like there could be some precipitation for tomorrow, so bring some water-proof clothing, jacket mainly. It will be chilly too.
We still have plenty of work that can be done, so still come out if you can. We will be doing much more cutting of new trail, instead of the repairs. The dirt will be too muddy to work with for the repairs. Nix the leafblowers, the leaves will be too wet to blow off the trail. We will be needing many bodies to rake and trim, so bring the loppers, cutters, and rakes. We would like to get two new freeride lines open, plus the entire Section One loop of the new Beginner trail.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it out tomorrow. I'll try and make it out next time.

Thanks to everyone who braved the elements and helped out today. A good old 7 hours of bustin' out new trail, and little bit of freezing our $%^&! off. It looks like it will be a little more reasonable for weather tomorrow.
Big thanks to Nick Gerber. First time doing trailwork and he kicked butt all day long. They way he was helping out, I thought he'd previously put in a few hundred hours of trailwork! Nice help to have.
Remember tomorrow... Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel.

Thanks Rich, but the real kudos should go out to you and all the other trail stewards, dirt bosses, and dedicated volunteers that spend copious amounts of time maintaining the trail systems. Without your efforts, dirt monkeys like myself wouldn't have such great places to punish bike, body and soul.
