I've got an 02 diamond back stx with a rockshox psylo fork, I'm realatively new to the full suspension bike format but love the idea (except for the softness of the ride). I've just ordered a fox float rp2 for the rear and can't wait to get that on, now to address the front fork . . .

I'm a heavier guy (210 lbs) and I don't ride lightly. I was thinking I needed a heavier duty fork because of how squishy this one is, but found I can get a heavier spring which will help a lot (the psylo comes standard with a red spring set up for guys at about 170 lbs). My question has to do with oil, I've heard the idea of switching the 5 weight oil to 7.5 or 10 weight will help a lot with the dampening of the shock and how it performs?

Anyone have some experience with changing oil weights and some good advice?

Also, I've owned this bike now for about 3 years and I'm thinking I should have the front fork gone over to keep it in good shape, any suggestions on a good place to get it serviced, I live on the south side of town.

Thanks,
Brett

I'm learning that the bicycle forks are as tweakable and prone to proper setup as motorcycle forks.
You'll want the proper spring for your weight, and oil to match. If your handy with tools you can DIY this with a little factory support or a manual. If not then allot of people on here recommend Brian Rose of Shockspital. http://www.shockspital.com/

Good Luck!

brett,

i've done this on my motorcycle, and it really did stiffen up my front end. it made the bike a smidge more high performance. but this was a road bike application, not a dirt bike.

upping the oil weight (viscosity), will make your fork move slower. this may or may not be what you want. i'd move up in small increments (don't go straight from 5wt to 10 wt). bicycles weigh way less than motorcycles do, so i'd expect the effects to be magnified.

please post your findings; i'm curious how it'll work for you.

cheers,
kim

'stump jumper', that name brings me back to when I was a kid and CB radios were more popular, my dad's old cb name was 'the stump jumper' (he was in wholesale lawn & garden equipment sales). Good Name ! ! !
