This is a great event that shouldn't be missed by anyone, as well as one of only two races that are MORC fundraisers! Thanks to everybody at Erik's for putting this event on and letting MORC be a part of it! :)

We'll see you at the race!!!

This is also a great race for people who want to give racing a try. The course is relatively easy to moderate and doesn't have any of the major steep hill climbs many of the other races have.

If you have been thinking about trying racing, sign up for the Erik's Spring Cup!

Please register before hand if all possible. It makes life easier for the racers and the volunteers. :D

Hi, Ian here ... Im an experienced (40yr old this year, biking for most of that) and fairly aggressive mountain biker, but raw newbie for racing, .... trying it out for the first time this year (got into Short & Fat in sept.) ... so im going to try some local stuff like Spring cup this year ...

My question is which category should I start in for the Spring cup, given it will be my first actual race Ive tried ? Citizen? Sport? Thx for the help.

My steed for xc stuff is a cannondale f600 with upgraded components etc ...

Ian....I would suggest Sport for any first time racer with a good mountain biking background.

It's just a good place to start. Racing is a lot different than just going out and hammering on a bike. I had a ton of riding experience and felt I was in awesome shape when I did my first few MTB races (I raced BMX at the time). Man was I wrong.....I got about 1 1/2 laps around the course and just bonked! Why? Because when you race you push yourself way above and beyond what you would normally do during a ride. So start out in sport and see how you do. Keep in mind, Salem is probably the flatest racing course on the MNSCS circuit, so it will be fast, but not a lot of climbing like the rest of the races.

You can always move up or down for the next race if you didn't feel Sport was right for you.

Is it just me or the Event Reg page is having some issues?

Ian,

If you're completely new to racing, you may want to do citizen regardless of your riding experience level. Shad makes great points about racing being another level beyond just going out an pushing yourself hard. Start out in Citizen and if you have a great race, go ahead and move up to sport in the next one.

On the other hand, if you are completely fine with going out and riding for 1.5 hrs, nonstop, at/just above your aerobic threshold, go ahead and sign up for the Sport category.

Whatever you do, have a good time and remember you're just out there to have fun right now!

I will be out there tomorrow to check it out, right before I leave for Fruita. I think it will be good to go for the races if the weather stays relatively dry. Salem tends to dry out faster than most trails because it's more out in the open, only a few wooded areas. It's also got a sandy/rocky base, which dries fairly fast too.

Trail Steward plug of the day:

There is trailwork on April 26th at 10am. So if you want to check it out and help prepare for the race.......showing up to trailwork will be a great way to support MORC and the race.

So wich one of Citizen classes should I ride in ?

At around 230lbs I was thinking the Clydes.

Go with the Clydes, it should move you up a few spots in the category compared to just Citizen. :)

No Comp Clydesdale class?
There is no Comp Clydesdale class. I will get it corrected on the Erik's web page. Thanks for raising the question.

How do I register for a class other than Comp Single Speed? That's all that's coming up for me and I can't find where to change it.

I have a PM into to Jeff Robertson (I don't have any other way to contact him)...anyone know of anyone else to contact regarding this? I double-checked and yeah, it's goofy...even if you go all the way through to the end of registration, there's still no option for any other class.

It closes at 10 tonight, so I hope we can get this resolved! Otherwise, race day registration starts at 8 a.m.

Looks like it's back up with the different classes.

Whew!!

Thanks for letting us know!
