So I purchased a Specialized Enduro (2005). In solid shape, but the Fox Float RL 100 fork is leaking quite a bit. Do I take it in for new seals or send it to Fox for an overhaul? I would rather replace seals, I plan on taking it to the Midwest Mountain Bike Fest in early May. Thoughts?

can't go wrong with Shockspital.

I had B. Rose overhaul my Fox Fork a couple months ago. Silky smooth, easy guy to work with, highly recommended.

Im in Madison, WI and really don't have options that I know of outside of a bike shop. Not sure if I want a unknown mech handling my fox fork. But what if I just need new seals, how do I determine the level of work?

Find a Special Ed dealer (I think Erik's has a Mad Town location). If they sell bikes with Fox shocks - they *should* be able to service them just fine.

Pretty expensive part to player MacGyver on.

All of the Fox manuals can be downloaded from their site.

You can try checking out a "how-to" at http://www.enduroforkseals.com/ but I'm not sure how similar the RL is to the F100X. Plus, Fox forks are hard to service yourself (IMO). I'd compare the cost of your LBS doing it vs. sending it to B. Rose.

I second that...Brian Rose @ shockspital is a great guy to bring any of your shock stuff and is the only guy I will use now. Not only do I like to support the little small biz guy, but he is top-notch. I beleive www.shockspital.com is the site...

There are two Erik's locations in Madison. They can replace dust wipers at each of their service centers. Give them a call and see what they can do for you!

thanks for the tips. I know the Eriks shops well. However they cycle through mechanics all the time, seems there is someone new each time I go in - odd. Ill give them a call anyway. Not sure I could get the fork to the shock doc and back in time for the midwest bike fest in early may.

I will also vouch for B Rose / Shockspital. Worked on front and rear shocks on my Epic.

Unknown? Don't worry about it kid, your fork would be just fine. He has a great mail in program set up just for guys like you. Send him your fork, and it comes back to you all fixed up. If your seals are leaking you for sure need the full o-haul. You should have your forked o-hauled at least once a year, if you want that thing to work right, that goes for disc brakes too.

oh yeah, I was reallly impressed with the shock doc, the unknown statement was for the mechs at Eriks. I spoke with Eriks and they send away for all shock work, no in house work. Im hoping the shock doc gets back to me soon, Ill send it to him. Thanks for the help guys.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe B Rose was the shock tech at QBP. This means he was the guy that the LBS sent their forks to for repair.
