i'm looking for ideas on how to remove bar ends. the ones i have installed on my bike look like the ones below. i've loosened the hex bolts but still can not pry them off. i'm sure falling on them a few times didn't help.
ideas or should i plan on cutting my bars a little short for this season?

If they are ODI ones that are part of a lock on grip, take the whole grip off the bars. This will make them easier to get off of the grip.

use a wrench that will fit over the bar and up against the flats of the bar ends - give the wrench a few taps with a hammer. If the grips are in the way, just roll them over themselves

Any chance the set screws are stripped or rounded out? A center punch or big flat blade with a rubber mallet should pop them off. If they're CF bars you might have to consider them trashed.

Well, you could/should buy a punch and some penetrating spray (Liquid Wrench, ect.). I typically use a brass punch since it's softer than most other metals and won't do nearly the damage. You might be able to even put the caps back on when you like. Now wouldn't that be nice! Let the spray do it's job for a while by spraying one at a time and let gravity work in your favor. I also have a couple different sized hammers. I typically use a finishing/furniture hammer, which is lighter weight.

just make the handle bars narrower.
put a pipe wrench on them and twist.
This isn't a carbon bar is it?

Try compressed air. Put the nozzle right next to the bar end. If you get one side off put compressed air hose in other side.

Wait I got a better idea. Take out the allen screw and put the air hose in that hole there it should blast right off. Look Out! It might hit something or somebody be careful!

Sawz-all(ulti-demo tool) and if not then hack saw. BFH assist maybe necessary.

thanks for the tips and suggestions. i got the bar ends removed using a hammer, screwdriver and two beers.
the bars are aluminum, so they are scratched but not ruined.

For safety sake, please wear goggles and point the stuck end away from you, toward the neighbor's cat.
