There is a small loop being built on Fridley City land this year. I'm not sure on the final distance, but around 3 miles I think. I don't know exactly where in the city and not sure about when it will open, but I know it is getting built.

At least one neighbor ain't gonna be happy with this trail route. Taht I know for sure!
I'm not sure how the neighborhood hikers are going to react either?
FYI: the existing park trails are in nice shape as of now.

What are you getting at exactly. Are you here to support MORC or are you here to stir the pot with unconstructive comments? We just don't have time for the latter.

I'm sure if the neighborhood hikers had presented a plan to the city it would have been considered.
Don't like something? Fix it.
And if you want it to be a remotely permanent fix, you'll have to go through the proper channels. You won't make much headway by bending or breaking the rules.
MORC is trying to fix something... the organization as a whole doesn't think there are enough mountain bike trails in the state, so the organization is working to get more.
As a mountain biker, I'm surprised you don't support that effort.

Did MORC ask the local community what they thought about the proposed park changes? How about the adjacent association?

What about the hikers? Muti-use trail or MTB trail ONLY?

Like I said (one) resident is going to be very unhappy when they find a MTB trail routed 50' from their back door. SE side.
I'm speaking as a resident who has lived in the area for 30 years.

Not our job.
In general we play nice with hikers by avoiding conflicts with their trails or providing new opportunities to share our new trails.
If hikers and local home owners need to spend their time worrying about what we are doing hopefully they are smart enough to know who to contact. In general its never been a problem with us.

But they don't have a clue as to what's about to happen to their nice little wild sanctuary, do they?
How do you think the adjacent association is going to react when bikers find the nice South private property entrance to the park?

It's been posted before... the only thing you should be getting upset with is your lack of patience and effort.
Search "Fridley" and start looking through threads. Or wait until someone in the know posts a reply.

I am posting this for mara since she can't get logged into the forums right now.
Fridley approached us, I believe, and the proposed trail is a part of the public parks and rec council meeting minutes at least as far back as the summer of 2006 so if anyone in town doesn't know what is going on or will be blindsided by this project, it's because they haven't been paying any attention to what is going on in their very public government.
Oh, and I also agree with this statement.

I believe mara is referring to the city files where they post the meeting minutes with details about what is going on in peoples neighborhoods. People who live in certain cities, if they care about their backyards, should pay more attention to what their local government is doing.
Mostly only mountain bikers visit the MORC site. So why would someone who doesn't mountain bike come here and find out a trail is going 50' from their back yard?

There is nothing to smell. The city approached us, the two of us arranged grant money, and the trail is going to be built. All the proper hoops have been jumped thru. This is a project the City of Fridley wanted and they asked for our help, so we helped them. There have been multiple mentions of an upcoming trail project in Fridley. Personally, I am from Minneapolis and don't know Fridley one bit, so I personally don't know the name of the park. There is nothing to hide here. We like to tell people about new trails. It's good advertisement for our group if we can relay upcoming trails. The members of MORC like to hear about upcoming riding oppurtunities. It does no good for us to hide this.

Hey Gary.....basically you are blaming the wrong people. We are a mountain bike advocacy group who advocates mountain bike trails.
Just like any other group or project, if people are concerned about their neighborhoods, they need to go to city council meetings or at least read up on meeting minutes posted on their websites. Or go to city hall and read them.
Mountain bikers are not the only groups wanting to put trails or other things in peoples neighborhoods, but cities are usually pretty good at making things public information about what is going on in their neighborhoods. If a resident isn't paying attention........then they may be surprised when a huge statue of "name famous figure here" is placed right in front of their property block the nice sunrise they enjoy every day.
Take you frustrations elsewhere please.

Another one from mara:
I found the park name on the website in at least four threads. I also find it in the city's park and rec meeting notes that spend pages discussing the proposed trail. It's fascinating reading, if one were so inclined.

Please, don't get me going anymore. If I have the power to get people "going" or doing things I'm going to have them go out and do the following.
1. give me their pay checks.
2. clean my house and wash my dishes for free.
3. have guys I don't like crap themselves in front of pretty girls they like in very public places.
Unfortunately you're all very lucky. I'd be collecting paychecks. You're the only one with the power to get you "going"

Gary H, if you want to start a respectful and insightful conversation feel free to do so. Please don't take pot shots at MORC and then ask why a few people might get upset. You know darn well what you are doing here.
