This is absolutely a blast! Run by my bestest buddy in the midwest Terry Carter and his PAMBA crew in Peoria, Illinois. They have some of the most smoking hot trails that are so much fun to ride, including some very rad downhill tracks that I wouldn't touch with my precious bikes. Yes...in Peoria! Not to mention, Terry usually has some really nice schwag to give away, and lots of it. Another fun thing to do is on the drive down, stop at North Liberty on the way to Peoria and ride Sugar Bottom Trails (just outside of Iowa City) and then continue on to Peoria which is 1-1/2 hours east. Below are links to PAMBA which has some info on the festival and Sugar Bottom's link. I would love to go to this!

I, like Gus, attended the one in KC but haven't been to it since it's been in Peoria. Looks like a good time though.

Yeah but how many people know where Blue Springs, MO, is? I just used KC generically.

The year I was there we rode stuff in KC proper, and I also rode Clinton Resevior in Lawrence, KS. Good stuff.

Seven or eight hours, depending on your lead foot.

From what Terry told me there will be separate campsites, one for the more quiet folks and one for the rowdies...I wonder where you will be pitching your tent Dirk? :D Cost: $10 for the entire weekend.

And btw, they are setting up a shower deal with an athletic club nearby, trust me, you will want showers after riding in that humidity.

Please, no more references to Dirk pitching a tent.

FYI. I will be camping for this event. Does anyone want to carpool? I was thinking of leaving Thursday night and staying at a hotel close to Iowa's Sugar bottoms. Get up semi early Friday, ride Sugar and head for Peoria. Anyone game??

P.S. I will be with the rowdy bunch!:D

Haven't been to the fest, but have ridden Farmdale a few times. Its a large area, in a river basin so you ride up and down the creek bank and the run off banks alot. Then you ride up and down the creek bank, after that you ride up and down the creek bank. Its actually fun. I ride it in November, when its real slippery from the leaves. The area could hold quite a few folks.

Is anyone still planning on going?
Also, any word on shower accomodations for those who are camping?
I've got this on my calendar, and have Friday off from work for Sugar Bottoms.

I am still going!! I believe that either our specific campgrounds or one close by allows people who registered for camping to use the shower facilities. One way or the other, there are placed to shower.

Do you plan on leaving Thursday night like some of us??

Yes, we're (my hubby & I) planning on finding a hotel somewhere near Sugar Bottoms for Thursday night, then camping (I think) at Peoria. From what I hear, the cool people will be camping and sharing a few choice adult beverages in the evening??? I haven't registered or anything yet though.

There are plenty of places to stay around Sugar Bottom right off the highway. I'll get with you on that! I know we have Friday off and will be traveling very early, just got to get everything organized first. Here's a link to info on camping at the festival:

Looks like you score a free t-shirt and a swag bag if you register by tomorrow (Sat 4/12/08) for this- see the PAMBA website. I just registered, we're planning to camp Fri & Sat. Still on for Sugar Bottom on Friday too.

We're leaving Friday morning and it will take us 6 hours to get to Sugar Bottom. Hopefully you're thinking about riding more towards the afternoon? If you need any directions, give me a call.

Now I'm thinking we should do the same thing- If we drive down Thursday night, we'd get there so late anyways. Maybe it would be better to leave the msp metro before rush hour Friday morning then we'd be to Sugar bottom around noon- Find some lunch then ride. What is everyone elses plans? Who all is planning to ride Sugar bottoms?

That would be awesome! We were going to ride Sugar in the afternoon and then take off for Peoria after that. It'll only take about 1-1/2 hours to get there.

I have made hotel reservations for Friday & Saturday night (yes I'm afraid of rain- I may melt!), and Sugar will depend on the weather. If it's open and not raining, we'll head out early Friday morning to ride it.

This was seriously a great time! Peoria has some awesome trails and it very cool to see other mountainbike associations such as GORC, FORC, CAMBA, and of course a couple of us wearing the MORC jersey. It started out rather cold and windy on Saturday to warm and sunny on Sunday. Quotes of the weekend go to Jennifer who said:

"I couldn't stop because I was clipped in" and

"Here's your sign" to a guy looking for the downhill course standing right next to the sign that said: TO DOWNHILL COURSE :crazy2:

There was everything from a Huffy Toss, movies, great food, an amazing schwag toss, night rides and several group rides each day. There was ample camping, and even a quiet camp ground, and the most seriously clean crappers I've ever seen complete with hand washing units that you pump with your feet. I was really impressed by the number of vendors there also. I believe this is moving next year to Michigan, a little too far for me, so I was glad to make it this year.
