I'm always looking for new safety gear and better ways to protect myself. I've see photos of these bike helmets that are "motocross" style with a protective face/chin bar. It looks like a motorcycle helmet designed for bikers.
Is this real or am I hallucinating? Is this really a helmet designed for fat tire enthusiasts? I'd like to find one retail if its possible.
Thanks in advance for the responses!

I know there are some Full Face helmets out there for BMX and fat tire enthusiasts. But if I am correct...the Pro DH circuit actually requires the moto x level full face .....so no your not hallucinating. I say if your doing DH go with a heavier duty moto x helmet, if your looking for that style in the XC scene then go with the BMX level, lighter and cheaper.
My Moto X helmet was around 325 when I bought it. (I dont moto) but plan to go DH soon. Right now just a XC and urban

Yes it's real. If you down hill or freeride thats what you would want, but if you xc bike it would get way to hot. I think REI has some, not much.

Actually i do believe they just have to be CPSC or ASTM F1952 certified here in the states.
Troy Lee, Fox, Giro, Bell, 661, and Specialized all make DH specific helmets that are designed for DH mtn biking.(I'm sure I'm forgetting some)

Fox Racing has some full face helmets for DH.

Also, SixSixOne has some too.

Just like previously stated, a full face is good for BMX and Downhill, but not so good for XC since they are too hot.
I do believe there are some well vented full face helmets on the market, but not sure who sells them.

Full-face helmets are also a great option when you are doing helmet-cam work, since they glom on to your head a little better!
