don't know if anyone else has tried this but last night I did about 16 miles on the area snowmobile trails. While they aren't exactly technical, they are a pretty fun and different way to get some miles on. it's also cool to ride something you've never been on, and see the world from a different angle.

On a snowmobile? Yes. On a bike durring snowmobile season, NO. Lotsa luck.:eyeroll:

I should've specified that the trail conditions have degraded to the point that they aren't snowmobilable. Now that we are getting 2-3 inches today I will probably be laying low for awhile as I'm sure that a few snowmobilers will want to get one last ride in.

I have been riding them for a couple of weeks when they have been frozen. Last night I did 24 miles on them with the lights and everything. They are nice to get off the road for a change. Not sure what joe's comment meant?

That may not be such a good idea this time of the year.

which direction from roch do you head? I would think you get some nice hills out past eyota. Although my legs weren't exactly thrilled about the hills I Was trying to them to get me up last night. I only walked the two biggest ones. Studs would be helpful too, as there were some terribly icy spots.

I pretty sure he is referring to the level of schwasted that any sled-head is or could be at any given point between bars.
Snowmobiles basically with no brakes, going 60 mixed with some Natty Ice=
injury to anything in their path.
I will admit though, the Pugsley loves to eat up Sled trail.
See you out there
I was out on the trails in Washington County last night. Perfect for a bike right now. Degraded to the point where I would not want to take my snowmobile on the trail but perfect to ride on. A little more snow and there will be sleds back out there though.
I ran into a couple of icy spots where it would have been good to have studs, but for the most part it's great running with just a set of 2.3 or larger tires.

Understood. Did'nt mean to come off so harsh. I saw a group of about 5 sleds in the ditch out by me last saturday. Ripping up grass and dirt. Even a couple of nice new ones. You're right about this little snow we just got. Not enough for me, but plenty for some.

I headed exactly north from my house, which is on the douglas trail. So I took the douglas trail cooridor north to pine island, then turned east to oronoco on trails that mostly crossed farm fields and then back west to douglas trail and home. I didn't hit to many big hills, but there was one small one that was all ice, I made it half way up on momentum then tried to stick my foot down only to have my cleat on the bottom of my shoe become an ice skate. I basically slowly slid back down the hill with both feet dragging on the ice and my crotch on the top tube. My home made studs would have been awesome crossing some of the frozen puddles and ponds but I had a 2 mile tar ride before the trail so it was rubber and low pressures. No spills though, so all good.
