I have a Surly 1x1 that I have been using as a 29er in the summer, but I want to go a step further with the 29er movement.

I am looking to build a rigid single speed 29er and was hoping that people could provide me with some suggestions/experiences for a rigid frame and fork(On-One, Voodoo, Other Boutique,....).

The one piece that I am requiring on this bike are sliding dropouts. The hassle of the horizontal drops on the Surly have converted me. Thanks for the help.

Try Walt Wehner of Waltworks in CO. I know a couple o guys with his steel 29er SS and they like them alot. He also has the option of Paragon Sliding drops.

Thought about it, but a 4.5 month wait? I don't know if I can do that. I have trouble waiting for lunch sometimes.

Nice! I do know what you are talking about. I don't know how much coin you want to spend but Carl Strong does great work too. Locally you could get Noren at Peacock to build you one. Willits and Soulcraft are others...and on and on and on.

A couple of reasons:

Currently run mechanicals, but would like to use hydros in the future. The setup post gearing change, has worn on me :hammer:and I am not interested in shimming all of the time.

I would like the option of running gears in the winter. Most sliding dropouts I have seen can be made with the option.

Custom is appealing as then the design could accomodate a large winter tire as well. Anyone had any experience with Blackcat Cycles. I really like the looks of his drops.:beerme:
