Why does the NSC Velodrome need your support?
The Velodrome is the only outdoor "strip wood" cycling track in North America, and is highly regarded as one of the world’s best. But after 18 years of exposure to the elements, its racing surface and support structure requires fairly constant maintenance.

Every year, the National Sports Center Foundation (NCSF) spends $20,000 - $30,000 to subsidize the Velodrome and its cycling programs.

As a non-profit organization, the NSCF cannot continue to bear these costs itself. Unless individual and corporate sponsors can take on the costs of maintaining the Velodrome, it will eventually have to shut down.

How can you support the NSC Veldrome and track cycling?
Attend the Velodrama fundraising event on Saturday, March 1 at One On One Bikes + Coffee + Stuff in the Minneapolis Warehouse District.

Make a tax-deductible contribution to National Sports Center Foundation’s Velodrome Preservation Fund. Email NSC Director Bob Williams (bwilliams@nscsports.com) for details.

Attend the “Thursday Night Lights” racing series at the NSC Velodrome, every Thursday starting at 7:00 p.m. from May 22 through September 11, 2008. See the NSC Velodrome site (http://www.nscsports.org/velo) for racing series details.

How will your donations be used at the NSC Velodrome?
Lumber and tools are necessary each year to reinforce the trusses and replace damaged laths on the racing surface.

The track’s lines need to be repainted every two years. Because the Velodrome will host national-level events this summer, a new coat will be required to be sure the track looks its best.

The asphalt warm-up track will also need to be patched and repaired this summer.

Some funds will also go toward the purchase of smaller track bicycles for use by children ages 8- 12 yrs old in the NSC Velodrome’s Future Racers program.

To each their own. It's going to be a good time all around, though.
