Anyone run large tires on their specialized epic? I'm looking at buying an '03 pro frame with sid fork and am putting together a build list.

I currently run a 2.5 front and 2.4 rear, but was planning on using a 2.3 rear on the epic. Thanks.

Depending on the tire manufactor a 2.35 usually fits in the rear. If using an Epic it wasn't designed for large tires, large air or brutal descents. Now saying that when I was following Porter on his Epic down Porcupine Rim in Utah he was beating it like a rented mule.

I don't really "freeride" much (if at all), mostly fast xc...I'm hesitant to give up my hardtail so I'm interested in the epic, and have really come to like the feel of larger tires. I feel like they let me get away with more without sacrificing much speed/rolling resistance (depending on tread, of course).

I ran a WTB Weirwolf 2.3 on the rear of the Epic I had and there was a little wiggle room to spare so you won't have a problem.

I think you'll be limited to 2.3's front and rear, which should be plenty big for our terrain.
