Anyone here wear cycling bibs? I'm thinking about converting to them this summer as I like the idea of not having an extra waste band (I'll be sporting some baggies over top of them). Any suggestions on brands?

.... I like the idea of not having an extra waste band ...
Did you mean waist band? Or waste band - which brings a certain image to mind.

You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. I wear Santini and will probably get a pair of Specialized as both of these seem to fit better for the average person. It is like trying to find a shoe that fits (an adventure for me usually) but once you know which brand keeps you happy buy a few more. Pearl, Castelli, Craft and etc. all make nice bibs just try a few on till you get the fit.

:crazy2: I think my waist is starting to become a bit of a waste with all the craft beers I have been drinking this winter.
Ive been in the bib world for about 5 years now and will never switch back!! I have tried, Castelli, LG, Nike, Assos, Sugino, and a few others. I like the LG and Castelli the best. I have two pair of LG that are about 5 years old and still in good shape.
Hope that is helpful

I wish they still had that spring Castelli sale in Saint Paul. I'd be all over that.

Of course! Why have to stop at all just go when you gotta. May be more appropriate for those long rides where the camel is loaded with beer:D

World Cycling has the Assos F1-13 on sale. Normally $275 but right now $240. I hear they're real nice.

I have a pair that I use in the winter. They help keep me a little warmer.

I've tried Castelli, Campagnolo, DeMarchi and Performance.
- Castelli - Love 'em, they were fit great, were soft, but wore out too fast to keep buying them. Can't afford that habit.
- Campy - Fit okay, the pad stitching came unravelled way before they wore out. They weren't the most comfy, but were under $80.
- DeMarchi - Tried 2 different styles, one I got on sale at WCP tent sale for about $110 (marked down from $160) and I love them. 2 more I got for about $80/pair which are not the same at all. They fit okay, a little tighter, but aren't nearly as comfy when they are on.
- Performance bibs. Ouch. You have to be pencil thin to get into those things. I got a size large and I'm only 5'8" and they still didn't fit. Some peple love them though.
try these

I also prefer bibs and wear mainly ones from Performance (http://www.performancebike.com/index.cfm).

Ditto. Performance bibs FTW! If you're too shy to sport them au natural then just toss some board/athletic shorts over the top. The difference in fit/comfort over "cargo" style MTB shorts is dramatic.
If you time their sales right you can get their highest-end house-brand bibs for well under $100/pr.
Case in point: http://performancebike.resultspage.com/search?p=Q&ts=custom&w=bib
Unless you're a roadie looking for a "kit" all the road stuff massively overrated and overpriced. Plus, American nads are clearly larger than European nads because I've yet to find Euro gear that doesn't treat the jewels with extreme malice (even in XXL).

Bibs are kick ass! One you start wearing them you always will. I wear baggie shells over em for mtn riding. They form to your body so much better than shorts and you get zero bunching when you are on the bars. I prefer Specialized Pro myself.
D
Just to pile on to what everyone else said - once you start using bibs you will wonder why the hell you didn't do it earlier.
Current fav is the Performance ultra which soup linked to a sweat sale price for. I'd recommend going up a size as I've found them to run small.
I agree with everyone else here. I'll also add that they really shine on long days in the saddle.

Castelli bibs on ebay FTW.
They're an ugly team color setup but I plan on wearing shorts over them so I should be good to go. If I like em I think I'll look into some of the other brands mentioned and get myself another pair.

Lots of stretch.
Some roll up from the bottom, some pull down from the top. Your choice.
The pro roadies do it while still riding, BTW.

It's in non-biking discussion. You can add access for yourself by User CP -> GroupMemberships. But beware. There's lots of political junk out there, and it often gets ugly.

Isn't there some story about Greg Lemond suffering from the tatas while leading the TDF? I believe he turned that tale into a cottage industry.

Bibs are for sure the way to go, but you don't need to spend 300 bucks to get a good pair. Just make sure you try them on, and when you do, kind of imitate your riding position. Most bibs will feel too tight at first if you just stand straight up.
