View Full Version : Front Derailer... Opinions?
So long story short I bought an XT E-type front deraileur thinking that it would be a decent upgrade for my Epic that is currently running a traditional LX.
My thought was that the E-type would stay in adjustment better and I wouldn't have to worry about if it was mounted in the perfect spot on the seat tube.
What are people's thoughts on the whole E-type deraileur? is it worth doing or should I not fix what isn't broken?
Is there a reason not every new bike (with multiple chainrings) isn't running one? When they came out a few years ago I though cool, that makes sense... But,it never got real popular.

While I can provide no actual helpful input on this topic, I will tell the best advice someone ever gave me.
deraillures are unnecessary and you are better off without them. SS all the way

My opinion on E-Type is only use it if that is your only option. The E-Type could throw off your chainline a little bit. I would suggest the newer style shimano derailleurs that have a wider cage and pivot points. They shift great. Or the new Sram X-Gen derailleurs are awesome. I am using the first generation X-Gen and have nothing but good things to say about it.

I agree with andy, e-types are for the birds. There isn't a real advantage to them and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
p.s.- ss isn't everything, riding your bike is
Well, that makes it unanimous. You two should know what you're talking about. Haven't met either of you, but, your profiles say you're both industry guys.

How much do you want for it? My new frame I'm buying only works with an E-type derailleur.

Unless the frame requires an E-type they should NEVER be used! They have the least amount of adjustment out of any front mech type.

I'd be happy if I can get my money back out of it.
$33.16?
