A couple of us want to hit up Rollerdome next week for a warm, dry change of pace. Anyone else want to go?

It's $6.50 to skate from 5-9pm on Wednesdays - rental is an additional $5. You can borrow pads for free. Free lessons are also available. It's NOT clear if the mini-doughnut concession stand will be open.

Feel free to get there earlier, but let's plan to meet at 6:15pm at the main entrance. Parking is free at the Metrodome lot at 5th St. + 11th Ave (enter at Gate D).

Here's the website: http://www.roller-dome.com/gen.html

I skate there every MWF (or whenever it is open), have a season pass, and 4 available FREE passes. FCFS!!!

I will definitely be there next Wednesday at the upper level. FCFS - so the first 4 get the passes and save some dough!:jumpy:

I usually get there around 5:45, depending on the traffic from work.

Later alligator...

Anyone know where I can get some 55mm wheels and an axle for my K2's ?

Lori are you going Friday ?

There isn't any skating this Friday - I could get you in next Monday thru Thursday though. (No Friday skating next week either - damn.)

Let me know - FCFS. You'll save at least 6 bucks, plus Chet & his crew like me.

Also - Roller Bob is usually there with skates to try out and has supplies, too. Chet rotated my wheels & replaced my bearings for free b/c of having a pass. It's been my experience that they take good care of you there.

I'll be there Wednesday! (Maybe Monday, depending on what time I get back into town after the weekend in NoDak). I've wanted to do the rollerdome thing since they started it, just never got around to it plus it seemed like the schedule was so messed up. I'll have to dig my rollerblades out of the attic -- sad to say I didn't even go once this summer. :( Mountain biking took precedence. Maybe this is an excuse to buy new skates? I think I've become a gear whore. :banghead:

note: I'll probably dork out and wear a helmet...someone I know was skating there and saw someone's head split open like a melon a couple seasons ago after being tripped and sliding across the floor into the concrete wall. Not cool.

Hardly anyone is without a helmet...even those who are expert speed skaters. I was told that someone died of head injuries last year, so be a non-dork if you wish...I think style (the clothing type vs. actual physical style) is not of top concern there, which I find rather refreshing. I get pretty tired of hearing about people comparing their f*&%ing gear. I could spend a lot more than I do, too, trust me. However, if you want tips on underwear for spandex vs. going "commando", I could help you there...:nono:

Just stay out of the speed skating lanes...no one's been a human bowling pin so far this season...

note: I'll probably dork out and wear a helmet...

I wear my helmet every time I rollerblade... even when I rollerblade at work during lunch... people laugh when they see me heading out of the parking lot. They ask me if I wear a helmet when running (saying it's the same thing), but when you're running you are not going 15+ mph. And you have way more control over your momentum.

I always answer that "I'd rather look stupid than be stupid." (i.e. head injury). That usually shuts them up.

PS
I totally dork out and wear wrist guards too. (I have only skated a handful of times so far... but no crashes yet...:crazy2:).

I have found that for women who are smaller boned, the children's size works the best and is the most comfortable.

You've convinced me, I'll bring a helmet. I rarely wear one when rollerblading outside on the bike paths, but might have to reconsider that as well. I seldom see people wearing them outside.

Just a biking one works great. (that's not just my advice, it's also REI.com's)

I gotta find my wrist guards...I swear I lose them every year and have to buy a new pair.

Do most people do the knee and elbow pads too ?

Do most people do the knee and elbow pads too ?

I've never worn them, and probably never will. I figure that stuff can be fixed, but my jello-y brain can't be. Nothing wrong with those pads, I tried 'em when I first started but could never get them to stay comfortably in one place no matter how tight I made them, so I gave up. They get in the way of my moves. And I gots moves. Oh yeah.

(not)

(sorry, been on the road for 7 hours and a bit punchy)

Hey, Travis--

Very few, if any elbow pads...and about 1/2 do knees. All the speed skaters wear helmets, and they are damn good, so I figure that if they're not embarrassed to wearing them, why should I? Let me know if you would like one of my passes, ok? I could leave it with Chet for you...

The pass would be great.

Did you say there is a "shop" there to get or repair stuff ?
I just need 1 wheel and axle. I can go without it would just be better to replace all the wheels.

Roller Bob is there with gear...I'm not sure if he does repairs onsite, but he has new gear there to try out, too. (New Rollerblade models, etc.) From my experience there, everyone is very helpful, friendly, and eager to help anyone interested in skating.

They take very good care of their season pass holders: Chett and gang "rotated my tires" and replaced my bearings for no charge. That's pretty cool. Plus the other skaters (even the pros) are very friendly, encouraging, and come to skate sans-ego.

Tomorrow looks like a nice day to be inside the warm, comforting teflon dome. I still plan to be there by 6:15ish. Even if you get there a bit late, just skate super fast (or slow, I guess) and I'm sure you'll find us.

Hey, I will be there with two non-MORC friends. (One who mountain bikes!! OK, she only went once with Jodi and me on Mark's bike, but she rode the XX loop with us and only walked a little more than I did. I hate her.)

She's gonna buy a mtn bike.

That was a fun skate last night; I didn't realize how many speed demons we had in the group. It was also really nice of Hubert's to reserve the entire restaurant just for us!
