I'll be returning home in April for a month of R & R before my transfer to Hawaii (yaaaay!):metal:.
Anyways just wondering what the trails are like during April to mid May? And any suggestions of which trails.
Although I did spend the first 18 years of my life in GR I have been gone for 9 yrs and only visiting every 2 years or so so I'm a little detached from what the weather's like around that time. :embarass:

Hi Davin. Welcome to MORC.
The Grand Rapids chapter is building some nice singletrack. I think they have a few miles done already, which connects up to some multi-use doubletrack trails. It has great potential, and excellent terrain. Plus, it is a beautiful area.
But my guess is that mid April - early May is going to not be very good. The ground takes a long time to thaw and shed the water. I have a cabin in the McGregor area, and have tried to ride the snowmobile/ATV trails that time of year, and it was too soft and wet. Even 200 miles south in the twin cities, it is a hit-or-miss that we will get any off-road riding in April.
Every year is different, but don't get your hopes too high.

Hi Davin-
Bob summed up the trail right on. If it's a warm and dry spring it may be ready to ride. You could always join us for trail work while you are home!
Hey guys,
i do have to say here in Hibbing, the iron ore dumps dry out a lot quicker that the local trails, and the woods. it's an option.
i ride the dumps all spring long. if you don't mind looking like the red iron ore monster , it is a great spring workout!!
Peace,
Joe

I would head up to Cable or Hayward Wisconsin. Most of the CAMBA trails are closed, but there are a lot of forest roads to ride. Also the Drummond cluster trails dry out pretty quick. You might be able to do some riding up there. Most of the single track will be too wet to ride.
