I am looking for someone in the Bemidji area that would be willing to advocate trails and perhaps head up a possible MORC chapter in that area. The reason is that Beltrami County is doing a park plan and mountain bikes are not mentioned in the first phase of the plan. We are mentioned in the second phase. I was told by the person that helped with the public meetings that we were not cosidered for phase one was that Mountain Bikers did not step forward as a user group.

I am willing to ask that we become considered for the first phase of trail plans but I will need someone in the Bemidji area to handle the day to day stuff and become the point on this. I will make all presentations and attend the major meetings and be a resource for anyone that is willing to step up and partner with me on this one. I think this is just too critical of an area for us to pass up.

Anyone willing to step up?? Or anyone in the metro areas know of someone that I should contact that might be willing to step forward? If you do send me and e-mail to: twegner50@yahoo.com

Thanks,
tw

Here's a link to an old thread back in April 2006 about the subject. No Bemidji area people responded.

That's cause the internet hasn't made it there yet. ;)

Tim,

An idea is to contact the BSU outdoor program director. I'm not sure who that is, but a few years ago while my brother was attending BSU, they had a great outdoor program...I even trusted my life with them and took a couple of climbing trips with them.

I can get hold of my bro and see if he might happen to have any contact info.

Chad.

Here is the link to the BSU OPC director's contact info. Guy's name is Mark Morrissey, and he's an avid outdoor sports enthusiast. 218-755-2999

I've met him, climbed/camped/travelled w/ him, etc, and he's a really good guy. I'm not sure if he's a mountain biker, but from what I gathered from my bro, he is a bicyclist. He also puts a lot of energy into his projects, so if he can't help you directly, hopefully he can point you to someone equally as enthusiastic.

Hope this helps.

I go deer hunting in that area and it would be awsome terrain for bike trails. When I was getting bored staring at trees I was imagining good lines for a trail around my stand on the side of a big hill!

Hey folks, I honestly don't check here much in the winter, however I'm glad I did.

Tim, get in contact with me, 218-209-6939.

I'm a senior college student, lived in Bemidji all my life. I have a decent name in the town, and am student teaching at the moment. I'm willing to do some footwork to make something happen up here.

Mark Morrisey would be a good option as well. The OPC does a decent job.

Anywho, yeah, feel free to contact me.

I'm a local college student up in Bemidji. I'd be extreamly happy to get some deacent trails up here. I'm pretty willing to do trail work or whatever on this project. Hope to hear this project can start up soon.
