Trying to throw together a little broomball game/practice this weekend. A few members of my team (beg. league) will be getting together to play on Sunday morning.

Grab a stick and come join us! Hopefully we'll garner enough people to actually have a nice game.

8:30 AM 'til about 10

Wilson Park Rink in Shoreview-
It's on the North side of Cty Rd F, between Victoria and Lexington Ave. Look for the Wilson park sign, the rinks are not really visible from the road.

Is this something any idiot could come to or is it more of a practice for, say, people who've ever seen broomball before?

batjerk

Well, since I plan to go, it must be for any idiot. I haven't played since highschool.

It started as a prcatice for the team, but we only have 7-9 total for the team so I imagine troy put this out to gather some folks to have more fun, we all have fun, but the team gets practice....I say come one out

An ex of mine plays and really likes it, but I've never so much as seen a game.

Is this one of those hideous sports that requires hand/eye coordination?

Some, I'm sure, but, I can ride a bike... sort of... so I figure I can do this too. At least well enough so someone has something to laugh at.:D

Gus has it exactly right. We're just looking to get some people out on the ice for a good time. Playing a crackpot of a game with 8-9 idiots is much more fun than only 3 or 4 idiots shooting balls at an empty net.

Mara-
broomball - think hockey with no skates, played with a mini-soccer ball and a club. :D

Yeah, they are pretty much clubs anymore, aren't they? I used to have an actual broom for broom ball. It was really cool.

Oh yeah, this'll be done by tennish then to facilitate getting back to BC for the 'shoein' deal?

Oh yeah... Um, I misread the date. I thought this was Saturday. I'll not be showing up, then. Sorry.

You gonna come join us Troy? I know BB is like slow motion compared to your icey sport of choice but it's still a good time for those of us with less skillz.:D

I would, but I'm still fighting off the flu. And if I do feel better, I have 2 hours of hockey calling my name that night. But I will try to make it another time. And nothing is slow motion when you are a goalie, except my reflex's as I'm getting older!:crazy2:

I plan on making it. Can someone hook me up with a broom? Otherwise, I can stand next to the rink and scream obscenities at the players, regardless of which team they are representing. Also, do we need to bring lights and darks to show separation?

That was a lot of fun. Thanks for putting it together, Troy!

I think my running around on ice skills are a little rusty, not to mention the whole aiming thing. . .

Much fun was had by me!

I dont expect everyone to show every week. I probably wont make it every week, but I think it will be like a group ride.....we will post the date/ time/ and place and hope to see some new faces every week.

Starting after xmas of course. I am sure this week is very busy for most

Ditto that, or without crying :crazy2:

If we are lucky enough to get a patient and forgiving crew, I'd like to play as often as I'm able.

A weekly thing would be great. I'd be able to make some Sat. mornings.

I might try to line something up for Wed or Fri evening of this week. Need to check how late the lights are on at some of the rinks.

On weekends, mornings are good when trying to set up games like this because you can be reasonably sure that when you get to the rink, you'll have it to yourself. By around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, there's a fairly good chance there is a pick-up hockey game already in progress at most rinks.

Charles- those ligament are yearning for a workout! :)

Friday evening I might be trying to arrange a game but it would probably be closer to Minneapolis if anyone is interested.

Nicole,

Keep me/us posted of the friday game if you need people. I'm trying to get my team together wed. or friday night. If we only have a few, we may as well hook up for your game.

Nickel

If you have people that want to come, I can try to move the game to a Roseville or Lauderdale rink. The bugger is that we play with a lot of grad students who don't have cars which is why we were thinking of maybe Van Cleve park near the U. I think you can call to reserve one of the rinks which we can do too.

Keep your plans easy for those you're playing with (rink near the U). It's looking like my team is leaning towards Wednesday. If any of us wanted to join you on friday we don't mind coming to Mpls.
