I use a 32:16 single speed gearing at murphy. I'm looking for a recommendation for ratios for use in the snow at leb. That would be
for 26" tires.

Hi Jim,

We generally use really low gearing for snow rides. I run a 32/23 (on a 29er), and would go even lower if there was an easy way to do it. So, I'd guess somewhere around 32/20 or 32/22 for a 26er. Maybe Ted and John can pipe up.

I run a 32x22 in the snow (with studded 2.7 26" timberwolf tires), but I like to spin. You might get by with a 32x20.... *if* we can get back to riding Leb again that is.

Agree with 32x22 to start season. Winter is a whole noth'er thang.

Interesting. I was contemplating (gulp) setting my SS up as a 1x9 to keep the rear wheel from spinning out from the higher torque loads of the SS. Sorta like starting a stick shift in second on a slippery road.

For the price of the new Nokian 29er studded tires I could almost get a new XC ski package.
