Duluth's City Council heard an ordinance allowing licenced, unleashed dogs on designated trails. If you have opinions on this, now's the time to contact your Councilors, attend Council meetings, or get your community group involved. It takes a few more readings before it's official.

Here are the basics:
PROPOSED BY COUNCILORS STAUBER AND STEWART
07-085-O
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING LICENSING OF UNLEASHED DOGS TO USE DESIGNATED AREAS AND TRAILS.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this ordinance is allow the designation of certain areas and trails in the city for use of dogs unrestrained by leashes or chains and to provide for licensing of dogs that are allowed to use such areas without such restraint.

The ordinance provides for licensing individual dogs to utilize off-leash areas and off-leash trails, provides for establishing of licensing fees by resolution and provides for certain restrictions and limitations on their use. It also provides for license revocation if appropriate.

The ordinance also allows for various areas and trails to authorized for use by such licensed dogs and authorizes rules for use of those areas and trails.

The full ordinance is at http://www.ci.duluth.mn.us/city/council/resord07/07-085-o.htm (http://www.ci.duluth.mn.us/city/council/resord07/07-085-o.htm)

We've got a stake in the City's trails so it's important we're aware of this.

Well I'm sure the bleeding heart libs of Duluth would not want to stifle the creative spirit of there pets. Duluth does not enforce any laws anyway, lease laws, snow removal laws. Glad I'm on the way out of this **** town.
