Hi
I am looking to build a 29er and would like some advise on a frame! I am leaning towards a Niner frame. Not sure if I should get the air9 or S.I.R9. air9 frame is Scandium and the S.I.R9 is steel. I will be using it for racing.
Should I be looking at other frames? I read some good reviews on the Niner frames.
Thanks!

That's a pretty broad topic. There is a lot of personal preference and usage involved in this kind of decision.
Check out the MTBR forums. They have a large 29er forum.

For some quick info, check the links on the right side of the page.
Good luck, and welcome to Kool-Aid drinkers anonymous.

I raced the MNSCS with my SIR9 last season, and I've been very happy with the bike. I have it built as a 2X9 with a Reba, and it weighs in at about 26lbs. Not the lightest race machine, but the bike isn't what's slowing me down at this point in my racing career. You'll save a bit more than a pound in weight going with one of Niner's scandium options and supposedly there is a small sacrifice in ride quality, but I don't have enough seat time on a Scandium Niner to back that claim up. If you don't care about the option to switch between geared and Singlespeed, then the MCR9 may be a better bet for geared only. It's the same frame as the SIR without the eccentric bottom bracket, saving weight and complexity. Erik's in St Louis Park has several Niners built up in stock that you can check out.

Like Bob said... pretty hard to give great advice on such a broad topic. There was just a thread last week or so about the same thing...
Personally if I was spending 800 on a frame only I would seriously think about getting a fully custom frame from someone like Walt at Waltworks or Scott(?) at Quiring Cycles. These come in at 1000 and they will tune the ride to exactly what you would like. But that's me.

That is too funny! I am 6' 3" and weigh in about 215 (No flab, I workout) so I feel like a 29er might be a better fit for me!
