Ha ha I am just giving everyone a hard time. The problem was that they weren't providing discounts for 501c3 organizations but now it looks like they are!
http://googlecheckout.blogspot.com/2007/09/introducing-google-checkout-for-non.html

But they are only waiving the fees until 2009 so it would be nice to see what they would be compared to PayPal.

I just posted in the Board's Forum about this and asked if it can be linked to Amember. I don't know if it's possible but I guess we'll find out. Amember is the software we bought to make joining and renewing memberships easier so people can get membership cards on time and then we also have a database that members can log into (easily) and see when their memberships expire along with other information.

It's hard to make everything perfect but we are trying. Right now Amember can automatically go right into PayPal as a payment option without going through a bunch of extra steps so it's pretty easy but maybe we can do this. I promise we will look into it. Amember is sort of up and running, we are testing some areas of it and making sure it all works. It seems we are on the right track though.

Trust me there is nothing more important to us than trying to make everyone happy and making membership easy to join and maintain for both the members and for our staffer so it all goes smoothly. We are definitely trying. Be patient and I promise you'll see progress. :)

I've been waiting for that to happen for years now... c'mon you guys, get me out of this prison we call the MORC board ;)

Seriously though, Google is stepping up their efforts. THe last time around it was the card processing that got us - but it looks like they might be doing their own processing in some way?

Also to Dan's point, if we go aMember we'll need to be sure it interfaces. (I should say when we go aMember). I'm sure if it doesn't now it will soon.

I'm actually looking at the Google option for another project I'm working on.

Actually, everyone that runs becomes a board member... so it isn't really possible to vote anyone out.

Maybe we need term limits? ;)

I used Google check-out for the first time the other day (and smoked a cigarette immediately afterward...). But seriously, it was simple, easy and fast. It's also backed by probably the most recognized and accepted/trusted name in all things InterWeb. In other words, it's got my vote.

My question is.....when is Google going to solve the global warming problem?....:D

My question is.....when is Google going to solve the global warming problem?....:DNever, it's too busy turning Chinese citizens in to their government for inappropriate searches to be much concerned with environmental issues.

Never, it's too busy turning Chinese citizens in to their government for inappropriate searches to be much concerned with environmental issues.

well, you have to look at it this way:
reducing the number of chinese citizens (after "liquidation" by the central authority) reduces the demand for power from cultural revolution-era coal-burning plants that would choke the life out of the clean air act.
which in turn reduces the toxic burden on the atmosphere.
which, over time, could eventually solve global warming.

the only question is, how many chinese citizens will google have to pony up in order to stop climate change?

in google, all things are possible.

Gosh, talk about thread creep.

Google was also offering services for businesses with NO processing fees until 2008.

The credit card processing fees look pretty good, maybe even lower than Paypal. We will look into this. Might be a nice option for those out ther ewho are still afraid of Paypal.

Wasn't it Yahoo that was turning people in?Upon further review, it isn't apparent that anyone was turning people in, it was more a matter of simply withholding information. And it was Yahoo, MSN, and Google.

Unless you don't buy anything, or really try not to, from China, I'm not sure we should be crying about Yahoo! or Google in the first place.

Tainted Ginger's Long Trip From China to U.S. Stores (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119543404007297464.html)Its a tough gig being a consumer because its hard to say where anything comes from. I've been paying more attention to it the last year and its pretty tough. I'm buying mostly organic stuff now. I still have my processed food jones but I'm trying to get away from that too. Even though it says this or that on the label I still wasn't there so I don't know what the chickens of these organic eggs ate because I wasn't there and even if I was I may not know what they put on the stuff I bought to feed them.
