This is weird.
I've had my Gary Fisher hanging (by the seat) from the basement ceiling for month or two. This morning, I happened to give the front wheel a spin, and it is wobbling like it just went through a bad crash. The tire now moves a half-inch or more side-to-side. I know that it was still perfectly true last week, because I was looking at the fork and brakes, and I know I gave the wheel a spin to check the rotor.
This is a Salsa Delgado 29er disc rim that I laced back in February. There are no broken spokes, but I noticed that the rim shifted where the two ends are pressed together. (The two parts no longer line up.) This is the same as happened on the back wheel (also a Delgado disc 29) in Fruita, except that in Fruita, my wheel stayed true. (I now have a Rhyno on back.)
I know I'm tough on bikes, but it really shouldn't break when I'm not riding it. I laced it up pretty tight, as per Salsa's recommendation, and used a tension meter. It probably has about 100-200 miles on it, and it was true last week. So, I'm pretty sure it was not a build problem. I know that Salsa discontinued that rim because of defects.
Have any of you seen this happen before?

Maybe someone broke into your house, took it for a joy ride, and returned it, cause they crashed and didn't want a faulty rim.
Besides that, I can not offer anything else.
Bummer!

The wheel could have been true with a lot of stress built up in the sleeve joint. Once the sleeve joint goes, everything readjusts.

Sounds like you're due for some 36h Stans Flows. Early xmas present to yourself.

Ever had a flat tire blow while bike is in storage? I had a tire blow, super loud at 1:00am, hanging up after full day of riding.
What is that called? Elastic, kenetic, or potrential energy.......you know forces still in motion after the visible motion has stopped.
Maybe the wife didn't want you to ride

This is also my guess. The sleeve joint shifted, with each side being pulled toward the closest spoke.

Or maybe I'm getting old enough that I don't remember taking it out for a ride.

When they went on sale for cheap, I bought 3 spare Rhyno Lites. I also have several boxes of spokes looking for a happy home.

Memories... Hub and spokes scavenged from the broken Salsa rim. Rim stolen from the wheel with broken Phil Wood hub. The funny thing is that I'm still using that wheel, and never even had to re-true it.
However, last weekend, I finally did break the Chris King cassette mechanism.

What was the final verdict on the king hub? What did you break and how hard was it to fix.
King hubs - No longer Bob approved.........

I didn't bother pulling the hub apart yet.
Bob,
If you can hold out until later this spring, we'll have a rim that I guarantee will be "bob-proof"! The puppies are 35mm wide, optimized for stiffness, and welded.

I took a proto pair of these in the 26" variety to Whistler and broke my bike in half, the wheels held up fine.

What haven't you broken on I bike Bob? I would like to know just out of curiosity.
Also... I still have your tents :)
I will be available all this week with the exception of tomorrow (Tuesday) if you want to make the run to Dakota County.

I've broken plenty of bikes in half. But I'm still interested. Maybe Salsa will let me trade up for a broken Delgado and a brand new, still in the wrapper Delgado race.
Dan, Let's plan to get the tents to me on Wednesday. I can run them over to Dakota at another time.

Had the infamous creak develop in my Salsa Delgado and had them replaced with the new Race wheels. I'm much happier with these rims and QBP did one heck of a good job relacing them. Total charge was $0 including the shipping back to MN. I would give them a call and them should be able to take good care of you.
On a side note I was afraid of loosing work with my previous employer back in Eagan, so I accepted a job down in the southwest. We were just informed that our contract was coming to a close without the option to rebid. Now I'm certain that my family will be out in the cold, its only a matter of time.

They swapped my previous rim for a Delgado race at no charge. But after reading the reviews, I learned that the race are even flimsier than the Delgado Disc. So, my replacement rim is sitting in my basement, still in the wrapper. Let me know if you want it. (36 hole)
Meanwhile, the Rhynos have been good to me, and cost less than half of what I paid for the Delgados. (probably 1/3 of what the Race costs) You gotta dance with the one who brung you.
Bummer about the job situation. But I would wait until end of Feb before going back to your old employer. Things are still iffy there. BTW, your avatar still says Burnsville.
