So, it is getting cold, and I want to keep riding, but have no idea what gear I should get/need (from clothes to tires).
So, what do I need to keep warm and on the trail from now until spring. Bonus points if I can avoid spandex pants!
Thanks.
...perhaps someone could fill out the Cold Weather riding page on the wiki???

There are quite a few threads on this topic...

(and other similar threads shown below)
We should really consolodate this information into the wiki though...

im not going to filly out the wiki with official info but if it helps you figure it out .....today I wore my fall tights, dickies pants, a long sleeve t and a jersey. smartwool hat under helmet, gloves, and wool socks with my shoes. cold to start with but warmed up very fast which is the way I like it...I think you should walk outside a little cold and then when you start riding you will warm up to a point where your warm but not overheated or dressed. I do not buy the fancy stuff, just where what you need to stay warm and you should be fine. thats what I did

nice job ted...I like how you stated that the wicking material does NOT have to be cycling specific. It can rather expensive. I bought my stuff cheap as I could find it and it works well for me, I agree the gloves should be warm but not bulky....it does get hard to shift otherwise NO MITTENS :D

I'm adding a bit to the wiki. I'm putting in some photos and expanding it to show temp ranges, although that can be difficult as each of us have different needs.
I'd like to see each section have at least a couple of examples of what to wear, say when its cool (fall) riding or extreme winter riding.
I'm posting what I know, so don't get hung up on the fact that I might put Pearl images in there. I added a section on cost up above because I know some like me stick to a brand that works for them but others pride themselves on finding a better value as was already mentioned. Maybe it would be cool to have a "Value Alert" section under each item mentioning something someone has used that is a good cheap alternative.

It seems like wiki does not like two cooks stirring the soup at the same time.

Yea, I think it takes the last one saved. I'll hold off for a bit.

Great start!
Whoever wrote the part about the extreme cold for hands section, might want to read through and edit a portion of that to make it more family friendly though ;) (not pointing any fingers at john or anything, but there is a picture of a Pearl glove next to it)

Pearl is my fav... you'll see more of it in other areas unless someone else beats me too it. :p

It'll show you a diff of the conflicting changes.
oh and I figured out you are using a wikimedia wiki. I'll clean up the formatting of some of the lists later today when things settle done.

Thats why I put up the cost section first. ;)
I also just cleaned up a lot of the links that were in the wiki... its better to use the link icon button.. you can now see what it looks like and can simply copy that for those wanting to add more links.
Basically its a [link here (space) <SPACE>text here] type of thing.
This is the first wiki where people are really getting into it - thats the way they should be! Nice...

I wasn't complaining about the pearl pic. I used the pearl reference to assume that it was you that wrote the text next to the picture. The part that needs editing is the word "shifting" that happens to be missing an f.
