I've been meaning to post this for a few days now...

I went out and rode Murphy last thursday afternoon. The academic year has really picked up for me; I probably hadn't ridden my MTB in three weeks and hadn't been out to murphy in probably two months. (quite a switch from riding three or four times a week during the summer).

I was so impressed with how much progress in so little time had been accomplished throughout the trail system, from the new rocks and obstacles, to the fun, fast singletrack loop.

This is mostly a thanks to the Murphy trailworkers. I live in St Paul, but will probably be joining you this spring for trailwork. You've done such a nice job, and seem to have really made an effort to create a fun, and increasingly technical trail with a consitent vision.

Thanks. I look forward to working with you guys.

Now...if you guys could just get all those pesky leaves raked up that'd be great....

Thanks a lot! It great to read comments like these. Glad you are enjoying the trail. Three Rivers will be having leaf removal at some point this fall. I'm not sure when. I think they are waiting for the leaves to be completely down. Pete C could probably give you more info.

We look forward to seeing you at trail work next Spring!

Of course, and I really am enjoying it.

I was really just kidding about the leaves. I thought the rolling hills of leaves were really pretty...made it hard to concentrate on riding.

Yeah, the views are really great with all the leaves down!

You've done such a nice job, and seem to have really made an effort to create a fun, and increasingly technical trail with a consistent vision.

Thanks! We've had a lot of great trailworkers this year... over 400 volunteer hours have been put into the trail during Sunday trailwork sessions this year.

(I especially like hearing the consistent vision part.)

I'd have to agree with Gary, you guys have made Murphy an awesome trail to ride. Murphy is my favorite trail to ride! The stunts/obstacles seem to be built with forethought and are actually fun to clear. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

On a side note, when does the trail close for the year? Is it when the snow flies or is it some arbitrary date? Does it stay open all year? When will those "pesky" leaves be raked up?

Pete can give a better answer, but Murphy will only close during freeze/thaw periods in late Fall/ early Winter and early Spring. The trail will be open for Winter riding when it is frozen solid. Did I get this correct Pete?

I haven't heard anything specific regarding the leaves - Three Rivers will be doing the work (when they're able to fit it in their schedule).

The trail will be open when it is forecasted to stay frozen for extended periods of time.

I could swear I'm going 3 miles and hour slower and pedaling in sand when I hear the buzzzzzzzzz of a leaf hitting my tire that's stuck in my brake pads. Maybe a reason to upgrade to disc brakes next year.......

That noise happens with disk brakes, too. Those leaves always find a place to hang.

I rode it Sunday morning and the trail was semi cleared of leaves. You could at least find your way. I heard mid last week that wasn't the case :)

It's a great ride even for a non technical, step bridge walker downer like myself.

I was there a week ago Thursday like the OP. I really like this trail and also like the direction it is going. The new obstacles are great. The big rock jump/drop is too big for me and not aligned quite right but it makes sense to have interesting features for riders of all levels as long as people like me can ride or walk on by the harder ones. I'd like to help out on one of the work days. In the meantime, thanks for the trails!

We'd love to have you out on a trail work day. Our trail working season is almost done for the year, but keep your eyes on this site for trail work sessions!

Glad you like the trail!
