I was looking at performance bike and found a pair of shoe covers for the winter. I am right in between sizes (I am assuming they are mens sizing) so I want to know how they should fit. Do you want them to be tight over the shoe or can they be somewhat loose?

I would say go a little big.

I have some Pearl Izumi microfleeced lined that shrank a little
when I washed/dry them. Plus you may get larger shoes
with thicker socks.

A little loose covers is still comfortable, too tight covers make
for worse insulation and potentially cold feet.

After looking at the ones in your link, I think those are the
really thin wind covers. I think they're cool weather not
cold weather riding.

These are the ultra warm ones. The one in your link is only going to block the wind and buy you maybe 10-15 degrees. Both are sized to go over road shoes with no tread. They say to order 2 sizes big for mountain shoes. These are all mens sizes.

+1. Those things are great.

I have a Pair of Pearl Izumis that work pretty good but when it's been really cold on long rides it helps to get some big fat wool socks and put them over shoes then put the booties over that.
If you're going to be out in really cold weather it helps to get sock liners and put toe warmers between the liner and sock on the inside the shoe. That got me through many winters of climbing and working outside up high in the wind where your feet don't move fast enough to stay warm in boots that are supposed to be rated to -40 to -60 but fail at zero when you're not doing much walking.

I have used the Performance shoe covers for years. (The ones with fleece lining on the inside, neoprene in between and lycra on the outside with the zipper in back.) They are good down to around 15-20 degrees. Below that I add some toe warmers. My shoe size is 8 1/2 and my shoe covers are a size 10. If you order them too small they are really tough to get on.

Listen to Bob and Ted...those are great! I have Trek booties, they are probably identical and made from the same manufacturer. Its okay to go bigger, less of chore to wrestle them over your shoes. Today, Tiff and I rode Murphy and it was 36 according to my temp gauge on my bike, at times we were riding through some pretty tough wind gusts and snow, and my feet stayed nice and warm.
